I see toxicity of religion. How it's used to inflame, ignite direct hate.

Religion? This has nothing to do with actual religion; this is just using a convenient tool and an easy scapegoat to distract a poor, ignorant and desperate people into blaming others for their misfortunes.

Of course this America bigots lies were swallowed and accepted. They amount to little more than Hitler’s tactic against Jews. The fastest way to unite a people is to declair a common enemy. The government loves it because it takes all the focus off of their own heinous corruption; the pseudo-religious groups love it because it is an issue they can bitch about without inadvertently condemning their own followers. (Incest? Multiple wives? Child slavery? Gambling, drug and alcohol addiction? Nah, let’s target the gays!)

The same old, same old.

But if it were not masked in religion, it would come in another forum. Hitler didn’t need religion to do this to the Jews; religion isn’t needed to ostracise the gays.

I am absolutely unconvinced that religion isn't playing a pivotal role in a continuous and reviving violent attitude towards homosexuals. It's justified by religious folks not only in your "poor, ignorant and desperate" nations, but in the United States as well as other prosperous nations.

As I said, it comes in many forms. I was drawing a comparison between how Hitler polarized the beaten German people desperate for a scapegoat and what is now happening in Uganda, which reflects many similar social-economic issues.

To say that religion has NOTHING to do with it, is outrageous.

I said actual religion. I don't consider any self-proclaimed "Christian" a Christian when they are advocating murder.

I agree. One has to put in perspective that organized religion uses the fear card (which quickly becomes a hate card) in much the same way politics does. It is a self-serving tactic. Organized religion has nothing left but gay-hating. It is their last big card. For centuries they made women second class citizens. Now that is ILLEGAL. For centuries they propagated racism and now that is ILLEGAL. That is why they will do anything and everything to stop any attempt to legalize anything gay. Organized religion is CLEARLY the mastermind of violence against gays and they use fear to do it along with some well-selected obscure quotes in the Bible that are taken completely out of context. Yet the word "homosexual" appears NOWHERE in any biblical scripture. But try to tell that to a Bible-banger.

HELLO? Hitler used fear cards (in much the same way political parties in this country do) to betray the German people. It was all about WEALTH and using fear cards to brainwash the masses. Hitler wanted all the wealth moved into his hands. Since the Jews controlled much of the wealth, they became a target of hatred and he brainwashed everybody else into believing that this group of people needed to be singled out and eliminated. Sound Familiar??? Organized religion in this country, ON MANY OCASSIONS, have suggested that homosexuals be quarantined. Our old, now deceased arch-enemy, Jerry Falwell, PREACHED that homosexuals be quarantined in CHURCHES!!! Get real.

Cut foreign aid to these degenerates. Then they'll rot in their own "poo-poo" infested neighborhoods.

Wells that all good for you, but I think if you stood up in front of the thousands, if not millions of people who believe in such actions, they would disagree whole-heartedly with your categorical match-ups.

Interesting retort, since you opened the floor with a generalizing statement lambasting religion.

I see toxicity of religion. How it's used to inflame, ignite direct hate.

Here is a statement from a coalition of religions supporting same-sex marriage, including various branches of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Sikh and more: http://www.elrod.ca/mac/coalition_statement.pdf

Religion isn't the root of the problem, hate is; the medium is not the message.

"Africans Unite Against Sodomy" !

I mean, c'mon...

This is the worst form of religion; fear-based and hate-inducing.

Find your way to heaven through hatred and intolerance.

"When you have a law against ho-mo-sex-U-Al-it -Tee, does it mean, 'except for eating 'poo poo' "

These people are idiots.

They see lightning and think that God is punishing them.

BearBoi, have you read some of the shit in the fucking Bible?

Disapproval, at best, is canonized in the holy books of the Abrahamic faiths. It's not a mere perversion of these religions; in fact, it is the highest word in them.

People often confuse the many ancient Jewish tribal laws recorded in the OT (that Jews don't even follow anymore) with the teachings of the actual religion. The two are not synonymous.

This is one of the biggest mistakes so-called "Christians" make when tossing around selectively chosen quotes to justify their hatred of choice. It is also one of the larger misconceptions that spurn much venom toward Christianity as a whole.

And Jews don't generally have much against homosexuals. Not counting the Militant Hassidic branches. Did you know same-sex marriages are recognized in Israel? Ya.

I couldn't care less if a religion supports me in my innate attraction to members of the same sex, those groups are tolerant despite their own texts.

I disagree.

I do believe religion has an uncanny ability to spread hate like a poison, better yet a disease, through it's active populace.

And this is where I disagree again. I beleive it is people who have that ability; the medium is just the tool. In the absense of religion, these people attain their ends through secular politics, or by twisting social customs and traditions.

Personal faith is a different thing, it calls upon a thoughtfulness that no organized religion seems to come close to. I stand by my 'general lambast' that this is proof religion can be toxic.

But that isn't what you said. Had you said that in the first place I'd not have replied. Instead, your innitital statement was a general swipe at religion itself, not the potential for people to use it for evil.

As much as my language contradicts, I would like to have a thoughtful conversation about that film and the events that have played out in Uganda.

I’d again have to reference lack of basic education. Ignorant people are people who are easily controlled.

Look at what is happening on a global scale; first-world nations throughout the world are expanding laws to equally apply to homosexuals.

Even America is, slowly, turning the tide within its own borders. Yes, bastions of ignorance and hate abound, and will for some time more, but I believe that the next generation is going to show a marked improvement toward homosexuals.

I read a study about the social views of young American Evangelicals, and while many hold ardently to views against abortion, the number accepting of homosexuals has dramatically increased. Source.

Now compare this to societies like Uganda.

There is a reason the American bigots have to go to places like that to enact laws banning homosexuality and creating criminal codes and death penalties. Even among the most rabidly homophobic areas of the US, that shit would have a hard time flying. (Some more so than others, but you get my point.)

What do you think about the American preacher who says (I'm paraphrasing), "It's a choice between the lesser of two evils, do we let the Pro-Homosexual Agenda do to Uganda what it's done to Europe and America, or do we allow this bill, albeit harsh, to pass?"

Can you change a man's mind, who thinks like that?

Not bloody likely. As long as people pay him the big bucks to keep spewing hate, he will keep cashing the cheques and standing on the soap-box.

I honestly believe that when it comes to these "anti-gay Super Stars" it is more about $$$ than conviction. I'd love to see the bank account of that Uganda preacher.

How can we as a group, as a society, combat ideas like that?

By proving their lies false by living openly. In Uganda the LGBT community is largely closeted, they are easy victims because they won't/can't fight back. People believe the lies because they don't know of any LGBT people to provide a human face.

As long as we continue to provide a human face, it makes it harder for the lies of bigots to affect the people we know and who know us.

I thought the language I used was fair.

And I disagreed. 'Nuff said.

In the 1950's the call was "kill commie for Jesus." Today it is kill the gays for Jesus.

IGNORANCE knows no color, no gender, no nationality, nor any level of education barrier.

Toxicity in Male human species no more no less No matter professions title or label they sing out their butt while their turkey up front yappin at da crowds

Wow too much ignorance in a video.

All I could think about during this video is how easy it is to manipulate people into believing something if you skew it enough.

I'm not sure if it's possible to combat ideas like that. I mean if you are taught to believe in something and you are preaching to kill someone or to imprison them based on something you think is wrong I'm not sure if there is anything we can do. I mean there is a difference between someone who thinks that this is wrong and you shouldn't do it and this is wrong and we will kill you for it. It's much harder to see the reasoning of the opposing views of the latter.

The fact that they think that if they don't hold their ground the homosexual agenda will take over the world and Uganda or recruit them doesn't help. I guess I missed that meeting for the homosexual agenda. :(

"missionaries of hate" is the right title.

I hope those poor people rob them every day.
