Is this a 2010 redux? Delaware? Nevada? where the Repubs outsmart themselves (not that difficult) by sending a right winger to battle against the Dems instead of someone more .................. u fill in the blanks

I don't know much about this primary but Politico says Ms. McCaskill who is polling far behind and trying to avoid connection with Pres. Obama as in her state it's the smart political play ............

well it says she got the opponent she preferred - the one who is the darling of the religious right

Interesting the recent Chick-Fil-A dust-up and just who "won" that one - social conservatives were emboldened by the appreciation day sales/coverage but much of the coverage was around the "marriage is between one man and one woman" bullshit which reasonable people know is uber dumb

anyway ........ this could be a sure fire Republican Senate win turned into a loss

courtesy of the "eat their own" crew

we'll see

perhaps some of the JUBBERs from Missouri can fill in some of the blanks here

Missouri GOP Senate primary: McCaskill gets her opponent, Akin wins - David Catanese and Alex Isenstadt - POLITICO.com

Rep. Todd Akin, is a winger-tea-bagger who lives in a very narrow and close-minded-warped world. He thrives in the ignorant chamber and is void of any sense of main-stream reality.
In the House, Akin has one of the most strongly conservative voting records. After a California federal appeals court ruled the reference to “one nation under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance was unconstitutional, Akin twice successfully ushered through a bill to strip lower courts of jurisdiction over challenges to the Pledge. But it went nowhere in the Senate. He sponsored the Parent’s Right to Know Act, which bars funding to family planning projects that provide contraceptive drugs and devices to minors without parental consent. In 2003, Akin burned some bridges with Republican leaders when he voted against their bill creating a prescription drug benefit under Medicare, saying the new program would be a “budget buster” and attract more illegal immigrants to the country
As a State Representative, Akin voted for carrying concealed weapons, voted against the parks and soils sales tax, voted against the 1993 tax increase and education spending increase. Akin sponsored legislation to prohibit casino companies from contributing to Missouri state lawmakers. In 1995, he fought Democrat Governor Mel Carnahan on state-funding for abortion, which Akin opposed
In late June 2011, Akin was discussing NBC's recent removal of the words "under God" from a video clip of the Pledge of Allegiance. Akin told radio host Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council that:
Well, I think NBC has a long record of being very liberal, and at the heart of liberalism really is a hatred for God and a belief that government should replace God.... This is a systematic effort to try to separate our faith and God, which is a source in our belief in individual liberties, from our country. And when you do that you tear the heart out of our country.
Two days later, Akin said in a radio interview there he would not apologize, since he meant that not all liberals hate God, only that liberals have "a hatred for public references for God."
I think (hope) Sen McCaskill can come out with the most votes. I don’t want to trash the voters of her state, but hopefully there’s a clear majority who live and thrive OUTSIDE of the ignorant chamber.
(p.s. I plucked some of these statements from articles posted on the net)

^ no wonder Ms. McCaskill is licking her chops :) he sounds like a peach

BTW - careful portchar, Luv is gonna be ALL OVER YOU for single spacing ;) you heard it here first :)

Claire pulled a fast one.

She picked her candidate. She ran more ads for her competition than she did for herself.

She's a good politician.

I'm not fond of Akin.

Claire used to be the prosecutor in Jackson County, Missouri (someone tell me I don't know where that's at) -- married and divorced a drug dealer who got killed in the KCK getto -- got elected State Auditor -- married a multi-multi millionaire and became filthy rich (like Romney with secret bank accounts everywhere) -- got elected US Senator -- continues to forget to pay her taxes and billed her US Senate expense account for trips on the family jet that were never taken -- one of the first on the national stage to support Obama candidacy for Prez -- she all but gives up hope to be re-elected --- then comes up with the brilliant strategy of selecting her own opponent.

If she loses -- Kerry will have an opponent for SOS.

Hmm McCaskill running her own ads I dont know about but Super PACs chiming in to ensure TP candidates who will steadfastly enforce the new conservative right wing agenda are receiving support from across the nation via the Limbaughs and the COCKS oh that's Kochs.

The Hunted Democrat

“Dropping $15 million into the presidential race won’t be determinative,” says Rick Hasen, an expert on campaign finance at the University of California, Irvine. “Dropping $15 million into a Senate race will be a bombshell.”

Under the media radar, vulnerable Senate candidates have spent the last few months getting pummeled by outside attacks. Crossroads GPS and similar groups have spent more than $6.5 million slamming Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill for supporting Obamacare; she currently trails all three of her potential Republican challengers in the polls.

The article is mainly about Sherrod Brown who is my representation in Ohio. So read the full article if you want perspective on outside groups affect on the overall campaigns.

Part of the plan is to make the spending itself an issue—to undercut the incessant commercials by speculating, as he does during the FOP event, that nefarious “oil companies,” “Wall Street banks,” and “Chinese” interests are meddling in the Ohio Senate race because he has opposed their interests in Washington. “Voters are going to start asking, ‘Why are all these people we’ve never heard of spending all this money against [Brown]?’” he tells Newsweek. “I want to put that in people’s minds”—whether he can prove it or not.

I think that is a brilliant strategy. Just likes Romney's taxes the fact that the Super PACs on the right fail to ever release their donors should be cause for concern for every American. Like how outside corporations are pulling the strings on our election process in states where they have no fucking business.

Akins sound like he is running for the state of 'Misery' instead of the State of Missouri.

But I say 'Show Me'.

I have the Klingon dictionary, do you think I need to read it more often and follow the instructions?

LOL

Wrong batch of people. I call the people who coalesced around the Tea Party -- the religious freaks and such -- "klingons" because they aren't really Tea Party types, they just cling on... and they're about as savory in character as the low side of Klingon life.

Sounds like this guy might have singlehandedly changed the balance of power in american politics

he had to step down by 5pm yesterday in order to give the repubs a chance to replace him - and still win the state - which was considered a pretty likely event

he declined

ryan has been linked to this freak - by the balanced media who allow barbara boxer and Jan schackowsky types to dominate the airwaves with the akin/ryan team story ;)

anyway ..............

shit happens when you primary elect freaks

christine o'donnell and sharron angle have nothing on akin it appears

other than they'll be footnotes in political infamy

Here in Missouri we have been blessed. First we get Rush Limbaugh then John Ashcroft and now Todd Akin three clowns of the Show Me State Circus.

^^^^^

You evidently haven't lived in Missouri long.

The corruption of the Carnahan's was the worst. Now we have the crooked Claire McCaskill that needs to be kicked out.

Interestingly enough, Akin still leads in the polls, perhaps he simply reflects the view of the Missouri electorate, hey, their state, their choice. Btw, for those stilled confused by forcible rape, I believe he was separating that from statutory rape. Just as interesting, a recent poll also showed that 50% of Americans call themselves pro-life, 43% so called pro-choice with 7% undecided. Akin did give a sort of twilight zone explanation that he was reaching for whatever to explain his position and thus the use of the female Jedi powers type comment to prevent pregnancy. Because I think the stakes are so high, and I think it is so important for the republicans to win the senate in order to hobble Il Duce in the thoroughly possible chance he wins re-election, Akin should drop out. If McCaskill is so unpopular even with Akin the Lame the candidate, why not put someone in the senate from Missouri who can interact with other senators who will make up the new republican majority rather than send an embarrassment and pariah. The Show Me state republicans actually have until Sept. 25 to replace their candidate on the ballot so Akin the Idiot has some time to make a "after serious consideration" type speech but keep in mind that almost 40% of Missourians consider themselves to be evangelical born again types and they belong to him. He only needs to convince 10% plus 1 of the balance of this very conservative state to beat the incredibly unpopular McCaskill. But to my thinking, it's not worth the chance, he should drop out.

what I don't get is this.

Why is it that both sides get their way every time and the needle never moves far enough to put the white house within reach of RMoney.

What is it that offends people so much that they just can't stomach it? the same reason why McCaskil will win.

GOP obstruction became so complete that people stopped believing a thing they had to say. Hell people stopped listening. McCaskil was a gift to the dems on a silver platter served up by Mitt.

All he had to do was show a bit of leadership or balls and beat Browne to the punch of calling for a resignation, the GOP would look clean, and mitt would have a pr victory.... But as someone that experienced him as governor, I can tell you he is not that kind of person.

Leader, I mean, of course.

He sits back, counts the polls, licks a finger and places it to the wind. He then waits for someone to make a statement that he is considering and if THAT person doesn't get shit for saying it, he will follow up in the rear

too late - now he will remain on the ballot even if the repubs take it to court - so effectively the race is McCaskill

he has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory - Republican victory in the state

and he has changed the narrative to women's rights and how far off the mark republicans are

it's not about abortion - it's not about pro-life - it's about A GUY saying stupid shit about rape, a woman's body, etc.

and creating a media frenzy that will not be forgotten anytime soon

he won't get pac money, he won't be able to hang onto to his "tie" in the polls

claire mccaskill was dead woman walking - now she's a folk hero

you cannot make this shit up

I'm not fond of Akin.
I am. His pronouncements mirror almost verbatim what is in the Republican Platform. Akin was honest enough to express his views, while members of the Republican ticket are not.

Please see Hans Christian Anderson - "The King's New Clothes"

I agree that the comment was dumbshit, but as I correctly pointed out, if Akin drops out before Sept 25th, the leadership of the state party can replace him and his name will not be on the ballot. He cannot be removed from the ballot by the party without his accent however. According to RCP, the latest poll showed him one point ahead, and his base is about as flexible as a hardon, or say Obama voters, and the money will flow to him from the religious right. Even tonight Mark Levin is calling on him to withdraw, but if he doesn't Levin is calling on the money folks who fund the super pacs, to contribute to him. MacCaskill is no folk hero, gaads, in any other state she would be up by 20 points now, she will be a footnote when she loses re-election, in an article on defying the odds. Missouri is not a hot bed of radical feminism 52% of the recent respondents said they were pro-life and they aren't going to vote for McCaskill, period, see above about flexibility. That being said, I think Akin should drop out, but even if he doesn't, he won't hold a monopoly on stupidity in the U.S. Congress. Hey look at Maxine Waters, lol.

RealClearPolitics - Election 2012 - Missouri Senate - Akin vs. McCaskill

The poll was by PPP, a democrat operation. Go to the poll questions, the answers are remarkable.

Actually Romney and Ryan are pretty up front about their views on abortion, see Ryans comments today. Their stands also dovetail with the 50% of Americans who refer to themselves as Pro-life as opposed to the 43% who call themselves Pro-Choice with 7% undecided. However, the positions of Romney and Ryan don't come close to the level of ineloquence that Akins comments do.
