Missouri GOP Senate primary: McCaskill gets the Republican Opponent she wants

^ Nice.

Typical Springer move to go to Chappaquiddick.

As we all learned, Todd Akin (not 'Aiken') (y'all will need the correct speeling of his name when you go to the Ballot Box in November!) doesn't need any editing to look like a complete idiot.

Todd Akin

BP opened the door about "political dignity" and Ted Kennedy

I suspect Mary Jo Kopechnie's parents might disagree

we all know the sordid story and while he had some tremendous political accomplishments and I feel for the family (Kennedy) and their incredible amount of personal family tragedy

He killed a girl - left the scene - stonewalled the police - used his power to get off

dignity ?

not so much

so rareboy what YOU should've done was ignore Jack's comments as you haven't a leg to stand on

and attacking him for responding to a silly assertion about dignity and Kennedy ...... well

it's so YOU reflexively

I hate to say it, but I'm not surprised. I recall when with a group of Lutherans for Life when someone brought in a pamphlet she was excited about. Fortunately, the pastor recognized one of the names cited, and proceeded to tell the woman to stop reading. He explained the background and the link, and simply asked why anyone would want to invoke the work of those who stood for death, in support of life. After a few moments of heavy silence, he asked the gal what she thought she ought to do with that pamphlet. She stared at it for a couple of seconds, whispered, "I didn't know", and then tore it in two. Others took the halves and tore them.

If every pro-life chapter had a critical thinker like that, there would be more sanity.

I didn't bring up the Edward Kennedy and imply he was a man of character. I felt a responsibility to state that Kennedy was not a man of character -- a fact that everyone knows about.

Just happy I don't live in Kanada and feel the need to comment on US politics.

there ya go. Chew on that one with indignation.

Akin (was that better CEP spelling police?) did not express himself very well and may be an uninformed person regarding rape but . . .

I doubt if many people really know how Barrack Obama feels about abortion.

He refused to support a bill in the Illinois Senate that would outlaw killing a living baby who made it through a late term abortion. He believes that a living human baby that somehow survives an abortion should be left alone to die or have a surgical instrument used to end the LIVING human life.

In the Illinois legislature, he opposed the “Born-Alive Infants Protection Act” three times. The bill recognized babies born after attempted abortions as persons and required doctors to give them care. Obama’s stalwart opposition to the bill came up during the 2008 campaign, and his team responded with a farrago of obfuscation and distortions.

The bill was supposedly redundant. Except it wasn’t. Protections for infants who survived abortions were shot through with loopholes, which is why the bill was offered in the first place. (Abortion doctors were leaving infants to die without any care.) The bill was supposedly a threat to abortion rights. Except it wasn’t. Obama opposed a version that stipulated it didn’t affect the legal status of infants still in the womb.

About a year after his final vote against the bill, Obama gave his famous 2004 Democratic convention speech extolling post-partisan moderation. But he couldn’t even bring himself to protect infants brutalized and utterly alone in some medical facility taking what might be only a few fragile breaths on this Earth. Some moderation. The federal version of the bill that he opposed in Illinois passed the U.S. Senate unanimously. Some post-partisanship.

After reading this --- who holds extreme abortion views? Obama.

Just in case you or others don't know -- regarding sex of the baby -- girls are the prime target in abortions.

... and who has a war on women?

It makes me sick at my stomach to think that a fellow human being could have these beliefs -- but people need to know.

I wanted to post a pic of an aborted baby that died as it was being born -- but it's just too graphic.

Oh. Gee.....

....the old...'y'all from outside the US should keep yo' mouths shut 'bout 'Murican politics...'specially you commie pinko fags from Canuckistan with your gay marriage and health care'....always without thinking that living in another country does not mean that one does not have material and legitimate interests and love for the country whose politics they are commenting on....

And I though that this was only Chance's 'go to' when he had no legitimate come back.

Well Jack. Feel free to comment on Canadian politics whenever you want.

But I can assure you that I know as much or more about the political history and politics of the US than about 95% of your fellow travellers.

BP, I guess I really didn't make my point. She slung a lot of mud during the primary and started with attack ads against Aiken on the Wednesday morning after the primary. Her ads were misleading and used a lot of editing of what Aiken said to make him look like a complete idiot.

McCaskill used a political tactic that doesn't always work -- picking your own opponent.

Aiken, an unknown, unremarkable congressman became the perfect opponent. He had national attention for the first time of his life (what most politicians live for) and made a complete fool of himself by not being prepared for media questions.

Now, unless Aiken resigns or McCaskill screws up, Missouri will have her for another 6 years.

Ted Kennedy and mud -- not sure you want to go there -- people will never forget the muddy waters of Chappaquiddick. Any ordinary citizen would have spent the rest of their life in prison.

BTW -- McCaskill is no Danforth or Truman.

Springer, it's Akin, not Aiken. Should I start a thread about YOUR misspelling? :D

You know what springer?

Just send out the word that you are ready to adopt a limitless number of babies of any colour, creed or circumstance and raise them in a loving and caring household and here's the thing.....the abortion rate would plummet. Just do that. Will ya?

...and until you have experienced the situation where you are told that your foetus is so brain damaged or physically deficient that it will not survive outside the womb and that the birth will most certainly put the mother's life at grave risk...until you either understand those circumstances because you have studied at least 100,000 high risk births, or you have experienced this situation yourself....maybe it is time for you and the other white males who have decided what women should do...to just sit and be silent. You don't even understand most of the issues around late term abortion. you are just another ignorant male who thinks that abortion is a caprice...a lifestyle choice like getting exfoliated....do your research and then come back and discuss this topic.

It is between every individual and their doctor and their God...not between the Republican party and the individual.

I think that some excerpts from the article are rather necessary, just in case some readers don't follow the link:
...originated from the concentration camps and the sadistic medical experiments done by Nazi doctors such as Josef Mengele, Herta Oberheuser and Karl Brandt. Quoting from Dr Mecklenburg’s article, the doctors tested their hypothesis “by selecting women who were about to ovulate and sending them to the gas chambers, only to bring them back after their realistic mock-killing, to see what the effect this had on their ovulatory patterns. An extremely high percentage of these women did not ovulate.”
Whoever perpetuates the myth that stressful rape will not result in conception (AND, THEREFORE, IF SHE CLAIMS "RAPE" BUT SHE CONCEIVES, it's because "she wanted it"), is no better than the Nazi scum who elevated this belief to a science.

How many of them had evidence-based sex ed? Not many it seems. Same with their voters.
There are probably very few people in some places like Kansas who aren't taught anything about sex and sexuality AT ALL (other than lies and disparaging stuff), because abstinence is all ya need to be indoctr9inated with, don'cha know.

OK, am I correct about Kansas? I think so, but I'm not sure. However, if the Party of Extreme Hypocrisy and Privilege gets its way, no school anywhere would ever be allowed to teach anything positive about homosexuality, birth control, or family planning OF ANY KIND...under very heavy penalty of extreme prison terms.

Goddam Republicans do NOT want anybody to even be PREPARED to raise families at all, and they sure as HELL don't deserve any help, ever...for any reason...when there are still big tax breaks to be given to the hyper-wealthy.

What the original studies behind the term indicate is that if women are degraded by being treated as less than human, starved nearly to death, worked sixteen hours a day, and then convinced they're being killed, their likelihood of conception is essentially nil.

also tell me why the GOP placed the exact same language into their platform THREE... 3 ... Three days ago, after the week they spent disavowing Akin. The GOP isn't upset with him for his opinion, they are upset that he caused the american public to look more closely at the dirty little secret that is the paul Ryan legislative history. Once again, the GOP finds itself at odds with reality and relies on the slight of hand and the stupidity of the voter to remember who said what and voted for what.

So Ted Kennedy is to be the whipping boy again? even in death?

If kennedy were alive today, we would have a functioning congress.

That is all anyone needs to know.

The rights attempt to devalue every good thing he did with the forty years that followed The car accident, is just one more thing they do that makes the indies like them less. He was a very rich man who fought tirelessly for the poor, and for minorities.

Its really easy when you have a guy up there like Romney to need to vilify Teddy, but I assure you, If anyone wants to start a thread on the virtues and foibles of Teddy Kennedy, feel free. You will NOT win the debate if you argue against his value to this nation.

That man spend half of his life in the senate and about one fifth of the life of the USA in the senate. His contributions to this nation go farther than anyone here slandering him has the courage, the intelligence or the basic ability for kindness, to ever do what he did.

He had all the money in the world, and never once did he try to lessen the tax burden on the rich, HIM, at the expense of the poor and the needy.

Just the opposite. He could have sat around and played that piano of his for all of his friends on the Vinyard all his days and never once did he have to work in the senate. But he did, and he did it as he was going through his terminal illness. He lived and he died with dignity, and if ANYONE here does one tenth of what this man accomplished in his life they would be very successful.

But they wont.... and they wont because its obvious its more important for some of YOU to win an argument than respect the dead or yourselves.

pathetic

No one is starting threads vilifying Teddy Boy - just responding to your deification

YOUR deification

so your outrage is ....... outrageous

The facts of the Chappaquiddick tragedy are clear:

a dead young woman who need not have died except for her unlucky rendezvous with frat boy Teddy -
he crashed the car - he was drunk - he left the scene - he tucked tail and ran and made no attempt to save her only himself - when police found her in the car (MUCH LATER) , the position of her body in the well suggested that she had been alive for some time breathing in an air pocket - so had he tried to save her from the damage HE caused, she might be alive today
he did not contact the police - he/his people viewed the situation under the prism of protecting HIS career/legacy not doing right
He displayed dishonesty, lack of courage, contempt for the law

In short, because he was a Kennedy, he got away with it

earlier in his life he was expelled from college for cheating

so start your thread about your hero Teddy Kennedy but no amount of legislation can offset this incident especially and others

if he's a hero, then mitt romney is a pauper

Chappaquiddick's Indiscretions Forever Tarnished Kennedy - ABC News

the retreat of a desperate man.

thanks

that made it all more clear to all of us

BP -- you brought up Kennedy as an example of character.

I'm sorry, but did he ever confess abandoning the young Mary Jo and causing her death? No, he did not.

If the liberals want to demonize a "born with a silver spoon in his mouth" rich man -- Ted Kennedy is your perfect choice.

I'd suggest you think about who you idolize.

Apropos of absolutely nothing, but Mary Jo Kopechne was from my home town of Forty Fort, PA. She was born right across the river in the city of Wilkes Barre (a stone's throw), but the family moved to the "west side" after she was born. Her younger brother Dan went to school with my mom (today he is a well respected physician in Wyoming Valley.) The family anglicized their last name from Kopechne to Kopen after the tragedy because the original had become so synonymous with the scandal that they couldn't function.

I realize this adds NOTHING to the discussion but I always found it interesting.

I don't care what you think of Teddy, my friend. I KNOW that the man did for this state and for the nation, and if you or anyone thinks that they can even for a day fill his shoes, I challenge you to do so.

This is just a distraction in true GOP form.
