Missouri State Rep comes out

...and he will now be forced to resign and will find a seat in the LCR.

And if he hadn't already decided to change careers, this would have ended his career with the GOP, as the opponents of liberty who are the core of the party swarmed out to denounce him.

I don't know who he is and I couldn't stand to listen to him. The world is full of gay men who have paid the price to live open and honest lives, but still politicians on both sides live as cowards because they are afraid it will cost them something. Feh!

I've heard he's not seeking reelection. I'm shocked to say the least lol.

Another Republican coming out after he's voted in support of public policy against gays and will now be having no further say, color me surprised (not).

President Romney will award Mr. Wyatt the Presidential Medal of Freedom. :=D:

Deserve no support. He came out only when he wasn't running for reelection and only after he betrayed members of his own community for a party that will now reject him.

I guess everybody comes out in their own time. You can't knock the guy for that.

But, given his big speech about bullying of gay youth, and his own experiences of that, and the damaging votes he's made to that cause whilst in office, I would think much more of him if he chose to give something back to his local community. Continuing to serve in his office, or taking a role in youth counselling or some such cause, would make me offer him some respect. But running away to a more gay-friendly state from hateful laws he's helped support makes him a coward in my book.

He will now be hated both by the minorities he voted against and by the bible-thumping rightwingers he was a part of for so long. I pity the fool.

He was man of courge to admit his sexuality in state that is the center of the Bible Belt.

I think what bothers me the most about people being "str8 acting" or "Discreet" here in Missouri and Kansas is that there are so many outwardly gay people it would be of little consequence....

He can go away and lower his head as he goes... yet he wont. He feels he did something good and does not really comprehend the harm he does to young gay men who may have looked up to him.

But what do you define as being "str8 acting" or "discreet"? I view both of them as being different than "closeted". To me, a masculine gay man who appears "straight" to a stranger would be "straight acting".

From what you've shared about yourself here, you have indicated that you are a 40-something guy who has made a career being a US military officer. You have shared pics of your customized Dodge Ram pick-up truck (with big tires).

That doesn't scream "gay." Perhaps your friends and colleagues know that you are gay. But, I'm willing to bet that a stranger meeting you for the first time in Kansas or Missouri, would most likely assume that you are straight (unless or until you told them otherwise). To me, that is the very meaning of "straight acting" and "discreet".

OTOH, a gay man in West Hollywood who drives a Volkswagen Beetle or Mazda Miata with rainbow flag stickers in the back, and wears white capri shorts with bright pink V-neck t-shirt and holds a chiuhauahua in his arm like a fashion accessory would appear "gay" to a stranger. He wouldn't have to ever disclose that he was gay -- everyone would already know after seeing him and hearing him speak.

"Straight acting" and "discreet" are loaded code words meaning exactly "closeted". Just the way that "gay" does not mean "happy" anymore. ACTING implies pretending. Straight looking is one thing - I am that, I think, though I probably do have a few gay mannerisms at this point. But straight acting would imply I pay special attention to appearing straight to everyone around me. As for "discreet", it simply means "I fuck with strangers with no questions asked", more or less, at this point of gay culture.

And way to stereotype again.
