MN Republicans to our community: Fuck off.

Gay Republicans.

Jewish Nazis.

Oil and water.

As I've said before, there's nothing stranger than a gay Republican.

ON TOPIC:

The Republicans ran on jobs jobs jobs, but they didn't tell you they are out to destroy jobs, not create them.

fire and gas!!

Irrelevant. You should care that you don't have equal standing before the law, in any respect. If you don't, you're a fucking idiot.

why did it matter to be 3/5ths of a man?

just because some things are right and some things are wrong. America used to care what the difference was.

In this day of "enhanced interogations" and subjective news reality it needs to matter more than ever.

if they have no plans of ever having a long-term partner or having kids, what does it matter to them?

The funny thing is..... plans change. As one ages and gains greater insight and wisdom, a person usually changes. A 20 year old boy has far different ambitions than a 35 year old, or a 55 year old, man. If someone is so self-centered that they only care about what they want, right here, right now, with zero regard for anyone else, well then..... I call that person a Republican. *shrug*

Because you and others like you are considered second class citizens by the state. If you find that acceptable, see my original post.

some gay people don't give a shit if they can get married or not.

Some gay people don't care if they can be fired or denied housing for being gay.

I have a partner of 23 years.

I want to marry him.

Why do you oppose giving me this freedom?

Correction: it's a freedom you have. They want to forbid you to exercise it, and penalize you if you try. It's active persecution, no different than having laws against speaking your opinion in public if you belong to a certain group.

This thread is not about one of our regulars. So let's keep it on topic and not a series of personal attacks.

Edit - I'll just get rid of that before jack does. It'll infuriate me slightly less.

"being a self-centered fuck doesn't necessarily make them a nazi."

No...it makes them a fascist-tolerating sheep. Just like all the people in Germany who claimed they didn't know what the nazis were doing at the camps. Anyone who actively tolerates the denigration of another group or subset of people because of their skin color or sexual orientation really is no different than those perpetrating the discrimination and abuse. They are complicit in the act.

Interestingly, I learned something about Navy SEALs, who have been much in the news lately: they are trained to not stand by or go along with an officer who orders or performs something immoral by the military code, but are to refuse to obey, and if necessary, use whatever action seems justified to keep the immoral act from being carried out.

So, theoretically, had there been children in the room where Osama was, and the SEAL officer had order "Take them out!", the rest of the team would have been required to ignore the order, and, if the officer had begun to act on his own order, disabled him to prevent him from doing so.

Now, if our SEALs are taught to not stand by and permit an abuse, ought we not do the same in the political realm?

I'm sick of having to pay thousands of dollars for things straight people get for free when they marry.

And yet, if you and a partner split, you won't have to pay thousands of dollars in legal fees like straights do, you'll have to just work it out amongst yourselves.

I can completely understand a gay man or woman agreeing with republican policies on economics, foreign policy and the immigration issue. But to not condemn these hateful bigoted republicans across this country, to appear indifferent to these horrendous ideas being considered for laws in various states just smacks of self-loathing.

This is why I'd never ever date a gay republican. Never ever. I liked to think I was open minded enough. But after all the excuses I've heard from gay republicans to shield hateful legislatures, I've just checked off another box on my list for potential partners when single.

Update: The bill has not been stopped; it has been given the most cursory of postponements, likely nothing to do with external pressures, but simply the technical problematics of dealing with it whilst the "president" (RE: Dictator) of Uganda sorts out his re-inauguration etc:

For the record, the U.S. involvement in this farce derives from Fundamentalists, not Christians as a whole. Indeed, there are plenty of Christians condemning the entire affair. Not nearly loudly enough, sadly, but they are there; focus on the actual culprits, not those who are tainted by the vaguest of associations.

The U.S. needs to clean its own house and expunge these cockroaches from its own political spheres before it takes any action with regards to civil rights in other nations. Uganda is an especial case, since elements within the U.S. are partially repsonsible for stirring up the situation; the saner elements of U.S. politics have an obligation to help fix the mess. Following that, eyes should turn inwards; the system could do with some polishing and rearranging, the fungi that's started to take root scouring away. Right now, the only evident difference between the fundamentalists and the extremist muslims is the beards.

Those fees are something gay men and women haven't bitched about. Sorry, I need another excuse outside of fees that would justifiy marriage inequality.

What's worse: harmful and behavior, or indifference to harmful and malicious behavior?

Your defense of blatant sociopathy is bizarre.

I actually find the argument posited by a homo that some homos don't want to marry or that homos are saved thousands of dollars in legal fees when they split incredibly sad and existentially bankrupt excuses for the actions of the Republican party.

It indicates a really fucked up view of how the entire world should work.

Divorce is messy. We want it that way. It makes divorce a less attractive option. It stabilizes reconcilable marriages.

But in the event of a divorce, divorce keeps things more civil and protects the interests of both parties. You're less likely to get taken for a ride with a judge there as a third-party neutral.
