Dustin worked today - then headed off to the wilderness zone. Unplugged.

Hi, Dustin,
Enjoy your time off the grid.

We'll clutter up your thread while you're away, so you have lots to catch up on.

Hmmm - should we get the porn out?!

:D

Hello All,

Our plans have been changed slightly. We will be heading to the cabin tomorrow morning at this point. I spent time with the family today.

In the time spent with the family, we analyzed the information stored by the vehicle tracker my parents have been placing in their car. Because my brother has totaled one vehicle, damaged another vehicle to the point of needing several repairs, he cannot drive his own car. They are allowing them to use theirs temporarily while we are out next week and during the weekends.

What we found was slightly troubling, and we are trying to understand it. He traveled from their home to Rochester, Minnesota. My mother, being as untrusting of him as she is (not that I blame her at all), recorded the miles on the odometer prior to him leaving their home. He told us this morning that he was going to "the gym." Funnily enough, we ended up seeing him later in the day when we went to the library to drop off a library book for mother. He went to his second employer (Domino's) to collect his paycheck.

When we returned home and analyzed the day's travels, mom reviewed the odometer. 226 Miles were traveled that morning. The mileage to the gym is 20, round trip 40. Not realizing this at the time, my step-father had put the tracker in the vehicle before my brother left home. We traced his activities from their home to Rochester, Minnesota, through Saint Paul, Minnesota, and back home again.

What I fail to understand through this research is the fact that there were never any stops. The tracker displays information second by second. The MPH never reached 0 MPH. There was constant activity, aside from the stops for lights and stop signs. My brother has absolutely NO reason to be in Rochester. Oddly enough, his location was a McDonald's near the Mayo Clinic. Again, no reason as to why he should be there whatsoever.

My parents asked him about why there were 200+ miles more on the car. His response was that they must have recorded the number incorrectly. I told mother that moving forward instead of writing it down, she must take a photograph of the odometer so that his smart ass remark will be met with proof. Then he can swallow on his own stupidity. He is playing games. He said he went to the gym and then to BWW. He was nowhere near the area. He even went so far as to clear the Trip computer. Regardless, the 66 miles that appeared on there were more than the trip to BWW and Gym would have been.

Today has been a difficult day. I don't know what to make of everything, as I am still processing and trying to understand the situation. Was he meeting someone there and the police showed up so he turned around? Is he casing a new area that his dealer will be meeting him at from now on? Why no stops? Why traveling back roads through Saint Paul instead of staying on the Interstate? Was he visiting his former dealer -- then why no stops, constant speed of 15+ through the area. Something with this whole situation simply isn't adding up.

I'm logging off for now. I needed to express the above.

Wishing you all the best,
Dustin

It does sound very suspicious. He has probably learned if he drives slowly, he is less likely to get stopped by the cops and you can be sure he has been stopped more times then you know. He has probably even been arrested more than you know. Also, if he is buying street drugs, he wouldn't necessarily need to stop for more than a minute to do the transaction, not even needing to get out of the vehicle. It's amazing how quickly addicts learn to fly below the radar with cops and how to arrange pick ups without being overly noticed. They are usually not as smart as they think, however. Is he coming home high?

There is one other possibilty, but far less likely. Could he just be going for long drives?

Sorry I missed you, Dustin.

I'm glad your parents are being proactive in tracking the car's use.
Hopefully they'll be able to nail his ass - for his own good.

You guys continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

That's why I posted what I did. He didn't stay at 2-3 MPH for more than a few SECONDS. It tracks movements by the second, and it was only that slow a few times. Otherwise he was doing the speed limit or faster. Was doing 85 in a 70 at one point. I know 35/35-E's limits well in those areas as I take them home. I suppose it's possible to do a transaction in seconds, but not at all likely. I'm perplexed as to how that played out. No, he didn't come home high. Mom said earlier in the week he was trying to get them out of the house earlier than Sunday, stating, "Won't Dustin be mad if you leave then?" Mom thought that was odd.

Not likely. Why wouldn't he tell mom and dad that to begin with? And why lie about where he was if that's the case? They confronted him about the extra miles, he could have just expressed that but instead lied and said he went to BWW and the Gym.... Doesn't quite make sense to me. Possible, I suppose, but not at all likely.

Well I've logged in again briefly. Can't seem to sleep. Probably won't. I agree, to some degree. I'm watching Mom antagonize over this. It's hard to watch that. The three of us (Mom, Dad, and I) had several discussions tonight trying to figure it out. Needless to say, there was no consensus. Review the data ten times and we'll still be confused as shit. :(

We appreciate the thoughts and prayers, DQ. Thank you. (*8*)

Addicts are so used to lying, they lie even when they don't have to. Trying to figure out what he is doing or why is an exercise in futility.

Hey Dustin  I hope you can relax and have some fun at the cabin (*8*)
