OH, my God. I had to post about this. I saw it Friday night, and I absolutely LOVED it!!!! I'm torn about NBC's stance on the show at the moment. It was a great treat to watch... and feels like a dirty trick, that they only ordered that pilot episode and haven't ordered a full season.

Did anyone else watch? Like? Dislike? I think there's some real potential, but not a lot of corporate faith in the product yet.

I never got into the original series as much... too corny, for my tastes. This new take on things though... WAY different. Good different.

In a way, it reminds me of why I always loved The Addams Family, too. In the original series, Herman Munster was a bumbling oaf of a man, with the body of a brick wall and the mind of a child in many ways. Temper tantrums included. In truth, the original Munsters show had poor Lily basically having a kid sharper than his years, and two adults, one of whom is her own father, who should KNOW better then they appeared to act.

Total difference this time around. Mockingbird Lane, has Herman & Lily actually acting as equals. That was always the difference for me, between Munsters and Addams before now. Gomez & Morticia, were what I grew up wishing I'd find for myself. A partner who was a match for me in being different... but helped you feel accepted for who you are. The original take on Herman & Lily reminds me more of Homer & Marge Simpson, if you want my honest opinion.

"We're Munsters, not monsters." Good line, there. And I think that in a nutshell is WHY I liked "Mockingbird Lane". There's bitingly dark humor there... but it's like... what made Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas such a cult hit. "Boys and girls every-where, life's no fun without a good scare. That's our job but we're not mean in our town of Halloween."

All told, I'm glad I saw Mockingbird Lane, even if NBC is too spooked to air more of it. Just... happened to be flipping channels, and found it by accident.

And for me, it felt like coming home.

are you serious....way too gory for 'family' entertainment as it was advertised...
portia derossi was atrocious....her spider/dress/creation sequence was the only cool part...
hottie cheyene jackson was burdened with way too many clothes on...lol...
all of the jokes fell flat.....
i really hope it never returns....top 10 WORST network specials i have ever seen

^i swear...the munsters are rolling over in their graves in disgust and anger

Really enjoyed it for all of the reasons stated by the OP, as well as the "Frankenstien" visual gag near the beginning, the effects and production values, the sublime Eddie Izzard, and all the possible directions that the pilot suggested they might go in. Saw Bryan Singer's name as an Executive Producer, and that is always a good thing. Maybe it can come back as a mid season replacement.

Awww I think some of you guys were a little to hard on the show I thought it was fun and Eddie Izzard a hoot.
Don't see it as a series it might run out of gas quickly

The show was horrible, the first time I was watching it I fell asleep, so decided to give it another chance it was still bad. The writing and story was terrible. Why even do a remake when and try to change everything, NBC wouldve been better off pitching it as some kind of new horror show like Grimm.

it was alright, i've seen much worse but this ain't the munsters and it fails to embody the original series in every way possible. it did have some neat special effects tho.
