This is the anti-technology thread. Yes I am aware that I am posting it on an online forum with a desktop computer.

I am anti-laundry as well but I do it, don't I?

Today's subject is GPS SHRINKS YOUR BRAIN.

So many of the annoying or tiresome things we used to do every day are necessary for us to be at our best. When gadgets and devices do them for us, we miss out on the activities that make us healthier, stronger and smarter. These gains come in small increments, but they occur numerous times a day, throughout our whole lives.

Our ancestors had crude medicine and science. Terrible hygiene and no antibiotics or vaccines. It's a wonder they didn't die much younger than they already did. Why didn't they? Because they ate no partially hydrogenated vegetable oil or Polysorbate 60. They walked up a hill instead of taking the escalator. They had to learn where to go, how to get there, and how to get back.

Modern life is rubbish.

I think the problem is that capitalism drives production for profit rather than for the common good and personal fulfillment. So we're bombarded with products, very few of which we actually need, and the toll on culture and on the Earth is catastrophic. Fossil fueled capitalism, which especially ramped up during and after the World Wars, brought an explosion of disposable products onto the market. You were meant to feel that an isolated suburban existence with all the latest cheap gadget doodad whatsits would make all your dreams come true. It's a self-perpetuating feedback loop because the more isolated and empty you feel, the more you buy to make up for it. But the fact is not only does the rat race consumerism make people feel cut off from real life and connection, but being literally addictive, it saps them of any will or energy to discern and react to the danger.

My great grandfather was out walking in the fresh air of a wide open farm field when he was hit and killed by lightning.

Too bad he didn't have a smartphone to give him a storm warning.

You will have to pry my food processor from my cold dead hands.

Well said. I have little doubt that today's technological gadgets are conceived and designed to fuel the demon engine of capitalism.

And often those with original ideas have regretted them once they get co-opted by unscrupulous businessmen or the "military-industrial-complex."

Earth Balance butter is the better butter

Unless there is an urgent need to lower your cholesterol, butter is the better butter. Earth Balance (wtf is that supposed to mean? It's margarine) is better than most margarins but it's still processed.

I'm going to hit ya with my anti-dairy forces, Mr. Peloso, and methinks you ain't gonna like it  Cow milk for cow babies! Granted, I'm a hypocrite because I put (goat) milk in my tea. Shit.

But that’s been happening since before the industrial revolution

I am so torn. On one hand we ignore so much 'technology' and refuse to always have the latest.

On the other hand, my work demands that we are always actually ahead of the curve so our hardware and software are always to the minute.

We do have a food processor and a microwave which we hide in a cupboard but don't have a dishwasher or or kitchen machinery. We are driving a 10 year old Pilot because we don't want a whole bunch of electronic shit and screens.

We just got Roku and Netflix this year. And had a landline up to last year. My cellphone has no texting or data.

We are the classic end-of-times boomers.
