So I found out yesterday I have mono. Such a bummer, no kissing my man for like two weeks! Not to mention the sore throat and constantly feeling tired. Does anybody know if it safe (if I feel like it) to fool around with my boyfriend as long as we don't kiss? I really don't want him to get mono. I don't know where I caught it either; I haven't been kissing random people or sharing drinks....

Damn, you feel like messing around? When I had it, I felt like I was dead.

Anyway, if you've been messing around/kissing lately, he's probably already got it or he has immunity from having a light case of it as a kid. (If I remember right.)

And if you live in a dorm or something, or drink out of public water fountains, or wash your hands, touch a faucet and then your food, you can get it -- it's not just through kissing or sharing drinks.

Hope you feel better soon -- it sucks, and you can relapse for months.

Geez, daycfern - if your boyfriend cannot accept and understand your inability to have sexual contact while you recover, dump him! It's only for 2 weeks ... let your body recover properly before you think about continuing relations.

Thanks, I hope I feel better soon. I am on two wonderful medicines right now, Prednisone to help with the swelling and Hydrocodone/Acetaminnophen to help with the pain. The combination of the two along with being young and always horny means even when I am dead tired I am ready for action. I am sure that my boy would wait, but I don't want too! But RicanDAB you are right I should let mybody recove properly.

Besides, I'm not certain that the virus is only passed through saliva. Other fluids may contain the virus.
Mind you, as prosperity said, if your man doesn't have symptoms yet, he is most likely immune (or it is still latent in him...).
Good luck, rest-up and fell better soon!

Thanks, I feel a little bit better but mono just takes all your energy away! On a side note, my boy came over the last two days and although we didn't do much I still was able to have little fun. No kissing though!

its still best to abstain while recuperating. after you're back on track and able...you can have each other for as long as you can munch 'em

Good point indexer, I suppose you are right. I am trying to stop taking the pain killers today, and man it sucks! I can understand how people can get addicted to drugs so fast.

as stated, mono is in other fluids as well. You are not supposed to donate blood for six months after having the virus. Also, as pointed out, your bf probably already has immunity to mono although it is not guaranteed.

Who said two weeks of no kissing? I looked everywhere for that time frame when I had it and couldn't find it anywhere.

Lastly, that's a rather strong pain killer for mono. I'd suggest stopping or switching to ibuprofen/tylenol asap. I didn't take anything for mono when I had it.

Thanks Jockboy01 I hope that he has immunity. The doctor I have been going to sai that I was still contagious for like two weeks, maybe I miss understood about the kissing...

Because of the prednisone that I am on for the swelling of the tonsils, no tylenol for me. I now am only taking the pain killers at night to help with sleeping through the night.

The also put me on another antiboditic for my tonsils since the swelling hasn't really gone down. I guess it is still going to be a while before I get to start having fun......damn!

first off, prednisone and tylenol can be taken together. Tylenol and acetominophen are the same thing, so you wouldn't want to take your prescribed pain med with the tylenol, but the prednisone is fine.

And antibiotic for the tonsils? You must also had a strep infection or else it wouldn't help at all with mono or the swelling. All it would do is possibly give you a rash.

Hope you feel better soon!
