More Microsoft Skulduggery

Seems MS has added the uninstall button to the addon now. I uninstalled it in FF.

This "news" is already known since September 2008. Already back then Windows Update installed it.

Why is it it comes up again? Haven't some people updated their Windows for ages and now that they did, they realized Microsoft does a bad thing?

^ old news indeed. And I totally agree that it is bad practice, but MS isn't alone with that.

For example Adobe installs an update manager, and even your holy company Apple silently installs you an iTunes plugin without asking.

iTunes Application Detector is installed when you install iTunes (maybe not on a mac, but on windows machines it is).
It didn't use to do that right from start, it came with some update.

^ that, and it's a firefox plugin, so it won't be in your iTunes plugin folder :)

And lets not forget that debacle last year with Apple where they tried to trick you into installing Safari on a Windows machine.

Do I need to go get a new update from MS to get that? There's no uninstall button on my FF add-ons.

I update regularly -- manually, because something turned off my Windows automatic updates (which is just as well, 'cause they constantly want to add crap I have no use for) -- but I haven't seen this on my list before.

Hmmm, idk, I am on Windows 7. But I doubt that really means anything?

LOL

Tells you how up on things MS I am -- I didn't even know there was a Windows 7!

I always have the OS of whatever machine I can afford, which at the moment is pre-Vista.
Well if you wait till October 22nd, you can get Windows 7 on your next computer buy.

I love Vista, but Windows 7 is just amazing.

yeah but here MS is installing a plugin for software that they didn't make, which results in a security issue. i'd actually not heard of this so i'll have to look on my computer now also. seems like a class action suit could have been filed against MS.

same for apple with iTunes, or Adobe .. or or :) I don't say it's right, but I don't understand the rage about it, because that's neither new nor the only case.

The triumvirate of evil: MS, Adobe and Google.

When and to where did Apple silently install an iTunes plugin? I can't find anything on it, but the search would be easier with a few more words included in the search.

It does. Also, when you update iTunes via "Apple Software Update", what do u know, u get a Safari web browser with it too which on top if it all is set as a "default" browser for your system
