More or Less?

I'm not sure how to answer this, because it appears that pubs have a whole set of characteristics in England-- social gathering place, food, camaraderie, etc., that we don't have in America, where pub is often just a synonym for a bar. If a pub is a great place to hang out, I'd say more. If it's just a place where old sots just stare into their drinks and not talk or do anything, I'd say who needs it? I could just buy beer or wine or go to the liquor store and sit home and do that.
