I love it when I can get out and about with my camera, taking as much time as I want to photograph anything that captures my attention. Today I was able to do just that (I'm on holidays at the moment) so I visited a bushland park on the outskirts of town and had a lovely time wandering around photographing some of the local flora and fauna I found there. A few examples for you ...

Gorgeous! Would love to see more.

I love that picture of the fluffy red flowering thing....:)
Did you mean the last pics in the first and third set? That's the flower of the native bottlebrush. Not sure what the name of the plant is that the other red flower is attached to.

I was going to ask the same thing. Thanks. It's aptly named.

As promised, here are some pics from today's bush picnic. I mentioned in my first post that I'm on holidays at the moment. So far we've travelled about 800 km north and inland from where we live on the south coast of W.A. and as you can see, we're in pretty rugged (what some people might call typically Aussie!) country .... Not a lot of water about (though there has been some very decent spring rainfall in this area in recent weeks), it's relatively flat and carpeted with rich red earth, gum trees and low growing vegetation. Probably not the sort of picture-postcard scenery that would appeal to many people, but I love it! I was born and grew up not far from here so of course it's in my blood! .....

We set up our picnic spot not far from a lake ... it still had some water in it but will be completely dried up, come summer ...

Much of the lake has dried out already ...

Target practice! And no, we weren't firing at any wildlife, just at a cardboard target we'd set up ;) ...

Ozguy:

Superb! Makes me wonder why there aren't more a) travel threads and b) photography/art threads in JUB.

And if you've posted pix before, perhaps you'd give us lazy blokes a link so we don't have to go hunting?

Ned

Sure, just check my gallery of pics .... Ozguy's Camping Adventure

I did a camping trip a couple of years ago starting in Darwin (in the Northern Territory) then through the Kimberley region in the far north of Western Australia, and it was AMAZING!! The countryside has to be seen and experienced to be believed.

Of course I'm a little bit biased coz I'm a West Aussie, but it truly is a spectacular and breathtaking part my state.

.... If you like desert, dry land..you might love to visit Grand Canyon, US
The Grand Canyon has always been on my 'places-I must-visit-before-I-die' list. In fact, we're planning a visit to the US/Canada within the next couple of years, so a visit to the GC will definitely be a highlight! ..|
