Re: Info on Morgan ?
There is another story about Morgan's disappearance and it may possibly be the reason why there is such a hush hush about him.
I worked for Drake's Bookstore back in the 80s, before William Higgens bought it out. It was a pretty wild place, had a little tea room we'd open in the back for after hours cruising on weekends. Charged a little membership fee and somehow never got busted. I pulled a few hotties out of there myself. I also worked at Book Circus on Santa Monica Blvd, back when The Starwood was still across the street and the headbangers would occasionally wander in the store and leave quickly when they realized they were in a cruising zone. Book Circus is stil there though it isn't quite the cruisy fun it used to be. Nothing really is.
At Drakes I worked for a man named Lawrence whose last name I will leave out. Anyone who knows Melrose from back in the day probably knows Lawrence. He was pretty notorious, snorted coke all day and popped Valium to come down at night. I'd be surprised if he was still alive. But he was a lot of fun to work for and Drakes was more of a paid party than a job. Quite ironically I now live just a few blocks from his old house, though he moved from L.A. years ago.
Anyway, Lawrence told me that Morgan was still quite alive at least at the time. He said that Morgan's father had found out about his porn career and convinced him to get out of the business and come home. The whole death story was simply a way to keep people from looking for him. He claimed that Morgan had moved back with his family somewhere in South Bay or Torrence and had plans to go back to school. It's been decades and my recollections from that time are hazy for some reason

, (ahem) but I am pretty sure he said it was somewhere in southern Los Angeles.
Now Lawrence was a bit of a bullshitter. But this story he told with absolute conviction and told me not to tell anyone. I think 3 deacades is fair enough especially since there is no way to prove anything anyway. He told me this when the stories about Morgan's death were circulating. He knew Higgens and pretty much anyone else in the gay porn industry, and when I asked what really happened to Morgan, he winked and pulled me aside and laid it out. He said there was never any police report about Morgan death because he never died.
Higgens eventually bought out Drakes and spruced it up and Melrose became trendy and boring and Aaron's Records moved and there was no reason to go down there anymore. I have no idea what happened to Lawrence.
So anyway, that's 2 cents.
