This came across in today's news

http://www.calgaryherald.com/life/M...sion+gays+still+opposes/7661090/story.htmland

the thing about it that struck me is that their "supportive" site http://www.mormonsandgays.org/....uses the word "gay" at all. But of course it still preserves their definition of marriage (as between a man and a woman).
Well, some progress even if it's just a lip-service gesture...

An excerpt from their web page:

"...The Church’s approach to this issue stands apart from society in many ways. And that’s alright. Reasonable people can and do differ. From a public relations perspective it would be easier for the Church to simply accept homosexual behavior. That we cannot
do, for God’s law is not ours to change.
There is no change in the Church’s position of what is morally right. But what is changing — and what needs to change — is to help Church members respond sensitively and thoughtfully when they encounter same-sex attraction in their own families, among other Church members, or elsewhere."

Yeah pawn it off to "God's law".....COWARDS.

 At least until their Church President and Prophet-for-Life decides he's received a new "revelation". Then what came before makes no difference and only the current "truth" matters. At least that was their explanation for suddenly deciding in 1978 that African-Americans weren't automatically condemned to hell.

Religion + politics = bad juju.

How terribly brave of them to take the road less travelled in the land of PR.

Useless bunch of ignorant tits.

I would think as a policy it might be more reasonable as a goal to be rejected in a way that you can choose to ignore rather than be accepted or approved of . Rather a large number of people will never accept you period . Calgary Mormon you will get a comment on a website , Saudi Arabia you can be beheaded now and most places until recently you would get a jail term . Disapproval I can live with but I would rather not be decapitated .

For them to be "more compassionate" implies that they had some measure of compassion before. The only claim to such would be that they don't call for gays to be killed.

So the answer is "What, are you kidding?"

Well aren't all religions supposed to teach compassion? Your views are perhaps correct though a little harsh. The view of the LDS organisation certainly isn't held by all of it's adherants. SOME compassion existed before - I am just speculating they may be more...

You sound a little reactionary...

The Mormon church has never exhibited the least bit of compassion toward gays. They haven't even put forth the wearing of their holy underwear as a cure. ;)

How's this then: I have more respect for Fred Phelps than the Mormon Church. Phelps calls it like he sees it, instead of this image-conscious hypocritical toxic two-faced Mormon spew. They can take their Quorum and go pick flies off a camel. And two-faced is really the word for it.

BTW, the ship sailed two decades ago with the "Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin" bullshit. The Catholics should sue for copyright infringement since they pioneered the two-faced technique. That didn't go over so well either.

Kulindahr's quite right about their absence of compassion. Check out 8:The Mormon Proposition for examples of how parents would rather see their children be dead than gay. Thinking its for the best. And the church complicit in this attitude and actively promoting the legalized bigotry that makes it happen.

I prefer http://www.mormonsexposed.com/. I find it more believable. Or at least attractive.
[STRIKE]Mormons Exposed[/STRIKE] Mormon Sex Posed

CORRECTED FOR TRUTH, HAHA

rather condescending

It's SO nice of them to acknowledge that we exist

What's next, LDS?

Even this tiniest concession has Brigham Young spinning in his grave.

I agree with this.

What I would like to understand is why the Moron Church is suddenly even bothering.

It tells me that the backlash against them over the last year must be hurting somewhat.

Or they are coming to terms with the idea that they could be on the losing side of Prop 8 and that there could be backlash against them.

I once living in the south of The U.S> had two hot Mormon missionaries come to my door. I told them I respected there choice to believe what they wanted, but I was gay. One of them said I was gay you can change. I smiled said come in here and within 5 min you will be gay again. He got all red and left. 5 Hours later he alone came to the door nervously said can I have sex with you. Fucking hot
