WOAH WOAH WOAH, this is so not true... I sure hope this was a joke... We believe in the Bible and it is equally if not more important than the Book of Mormon. The BoM is "Another testament of Jesus Christ," not the only. Polygamy was tool to increase members. Moving a small population across the country takes some man power. And polygamy is over and done with. Blacks are highly accepted in mormonism. My local temple president in African American. Tell me how that isn't accepting. That 10% "protection money" is called tithing, and it's used for things such as building chapels and help those in need (Mormon or not, I invite you to look up Mormons and Hurricane Katrina, and their contribution). Women are equals in all relationships. Mormonism accepts gay people to an extent, however they do not promote it and do believe that it is a sin(but seriously what religion doesn't). And masturbation does not turn you gay.

In recent years the Mormon church as made great strides in working to have a dialogue with gay members. While they don't condone the act of guy to guy sex they also don't condone woman to man sex outside of marriage.
The key in their belief isn't the gender of the realtionship it is because it is outside of marriage.
Now, marriage between a man and man is something that will be decided outside of religion, it will be decided in Congress hopefully... and not by the courts.



The post that began this thread showed a statement almost 40 years old by a member of the LDS church. Not the President of the church, just one member stating his beliefs.

I was a Mormon for 4 years. I held the Melchizedek priesthood (the top of the hierarchy which opened any temple to me). This business of refraining to masturbate is nonsense. Then the couple is told to have large families. No birth control. I have known some who have 14 children or more. I knew one who was number 13 who said he was raised by a younger brother and really didn't know his parents. To sum up, from birth to marriage, you are not to touch your penis/vagina except when you take a piss. When the missionaries end their mission at age 21, they are told to marry within a year.

P. S. gay people are welcome in the area church (called a ward) but never can be priests of the church nor enter any temple. The church claims to be tolerant of gays but that is not true. The underlying restriction of gay marriages is the stupid idea that gay marriages will destroy the family. I don't understand that at all.

The bottom line is to control sexual feelings and touching then you will control the person.

OK, I grew up Mormon, and I have plenty of bones to pick with the church, dude; but as soon as you use the term "cult," you de-legitimate everything you might have said that has any kernel of truth to it. Prop 8 has happened and a lot of other stuff. If you go to the Mormon Church and tell the leaders you have a problem with same-sex attraction, you'll be accepted as a sick member in need of love and fellowship. If you go with your lover and proclaim yourself to be gay, born that way, not desirous of change, etc. You will not be welcome, and you will be excommunicated. So, whatever.

Sorry, what a crock of shit. I was born and raised in Utah, had to do the church thing until I was a late teen (finally won the war or willpower) and your comments are grossly over exaggerated and in some cases just gossip. The "highest" level of priesthood you achieved doesn't open ANY doors without a temple recommend from a Bishop, and your writings here on polygamy are ridiculous. Missionaries are not ordered to marry in any time frame, the age of enormous families has pretty much expired, and the polygamists are few and far between, mostly keeping to themselves since they aren't accepted by any society really.

I'm not a religious person, I lost my ability to believe in a scary old man with a beard living in the clouds and passing out wrath when I was 12. HOWEVER....... I strongly support the right everyone else has to believe whatever the hell they want and I won't attack them for not agreeing with me.

When Haiti got their entire civilization wiped out the LDS church AGAIN sent millions in aid paid for by their members and volunteers.
