Mortal Kombat (2011)

Banned in Australia and on customs prohibited list. Can't even order it from an online store. Boo.

I've already pre-ordered mine, one of the games I have been anticipating most since I heard about it.

Sonya!

This game does look pretty good. The last few Mortal Kombat games were all duds. This looks like a big improvement.

This game looks awesome. I can't wait to play as Mileena. She's hot!

Holy shit! Seriously? Man that really sucks! How can they get away with that?

That is terrible, that is....UNGODLY!

It's sick and sad, but it's true.

Why don't you just download the playable demo, Rocketeer? Mileena is one of four characters you can try out.

I read it in her bio on youtube and on the MK wiki. She was resurrected to serve Shao Khan in this one.

I'm fairly sure that's the Deadly Alliance/Deception storyline. This is a complete shift in reboot and as it's set 1-3 it hasn't happened yet. They have changed things though, smoke is human as it was the younger sub zero who got Cyberised.

I always played Raiden and Smoke (the Noob Saibot / Smoke combination on deception was unbeatable).

I'm absolutely devastated to find out that MK9 isn't going to be available in Australia....Hopefully, they will at least do what they did with L4D2, and edit it so that it's playable for u18. Either that or hurry the fuck up with an R18+ classification for games. Seriously, Australia is like the only country left without one....

I was doing some YouTube searching and it appears all the fatalities have been revealed. This game does a good job of re-imagining most character's signature fatalities -- except for Sonya's "Kiss of Death" not being one of her's at all -- by making them more brutal. I may have to pick this game up Monday at 12am. Work be damned.

One of Stryker's made me say damn out-loud.

I'm not sure that an MK game with lower violence would be as fun, Anders.

And as for the R18+ rating, I've read that even if it does come in, it is unlikely to reverse the ban on MK (i.e., the rating would not apply retrospectively).

Yeah, I agree, but it would still be nice to play through it, perfecting combos etc.
I tend to focus on the 'skill' aspects of games rather than, for instance with MK, the fatalities and whatnot (though, they look fucking awesome in MK9), which is what I assume is making it 'too violent'.

But basically, MK9 will never see the light of day in Australia? .... sigh.

Yes, basically, there is unlikely to ever be a legal copy of MK9 in Australia. See Gamespot's interview with Brendan O'Connor below:

Correct me if I misunderstood, but MK is currently refused classification, by the classification board, based on the current classifications available. Meaning that they couldn't currently give it a classification because it's not appropriate for those at 15 years of age.

I know he states that those that were previously RC probably wont be moved into the R18+, but if they're going to be moving certain games around from MA15+ to R18+ etc, is it possible that people could pressure them into shifting previously RC games to R18+? Especially considering the fact that most, if not all, other countries allow them?

I'm not quite sure how the classification board / system works, and I apologize if the answer to my question is obvious

Australia is the reason Piracy is high. Everyone I know is just going to pirate the living shit out of this game because our government thinks they are the ones who should be making our decisions for us despite the fact we are adults.

Buncha cunts.

The classification board is unlikely to accept petitions to allot a classification to a game. If the R18+ rating comes into effect, one possible way to garner a rating for MK9 would be for Warner Brothers to resubmit it for classification, or request a review of the "refused classification" on the basis of a new class in place.

However, given the timeframe it's likely to take for the R18+ rating to come in, the likelihood of piracy and reduced interest in the game as time goes on, it would probably not be worth Warner Brothers' time and money getting it classified and distributing it generally in Australia.
