Most Hated Gay Movies

Buck and Chuck. Mike White who wrote and starred in it was on The Amazing Race with his Dad. Seems like a nice enough guy, but that movie is awful.

Close second In and Out with Kevin Cline.

I have to admit, I'm one of those people who like Later Days. For those of us from Fundamentalist backgrounds, there's a lot in that movie that rings true.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. Quite possibly one of the most homophobic movies made by Hollywood.

I also liked The Bridcage. Even though Nathan Lane's character was a bit stereotypical I think Robbin Williams performance was pretty good. And this one of the few Hollywood films which portrays a gay couple in a LTR with a grown up son.

I liked The Birdcage, Making Love, Brokeback Mountain, Latter Days, Another Gay Movie, Eating Out 2. They wouldn't win any Oscars but they were alright.

Dante's Cove was terrible, along with the series.

While I haven't seen "Dante's Cove," I HAVE (unfortunately) seen "The Lair." While the sex scenes are steamy, the rest is so painful to watch that I'd sooner watch a fat lady eat cottage cheese out of her own bosom!

i'm kind of stuck with movies like latter days and whatever the LOGO channel shows when it's not abusing Buff the vampire slayer.

are then any other channels like "gay themed" movies or whatever? (i don't know the like politics way to say it)

Oh god, so many. Tan Lines comes to mind almost right away.

People seemed to like Antarctica but it was (and currently is) the only movie I've walked out on. All the characters spoke the same and it was boring as hell.

Crutch,Boy Culture (also couldn't finish it), Ethan Mao, You I Love, Testosterone (despite yummy David Sutcliffe), and Under One Roof are all pretty horrid.

I wanted to like Another Gay Movie but meh. A bit too over the top for me. Didn't even see the sequel.

All these movies really make me wish my scripts were made instead of this crap. Grrr.

brokeback mountain was alright, the book was much better.
I hated the birdcage

Why so people answered BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN? it's one of the best gay movies of all time.....It's a classic.

I would have to say Philedelphia... I didn't see it as a 'gay' movie cos it was more about a man who was fired from his job for having AIDS than anything else! And it was sub-plotted that he was gay... that was so annoying

I think many dislike the sad, even tragic, tone of it. I personally thought it was beautifully written, acted and directed. But I'm a great fan of Proulx.

Just a Question of Love/Juste une Question d'Amour - is my most disliked. I didn't like or understand any of the characters or their actions.

I can understand why some people would dislike the Eating Out movies, but to be fair, they are kind of over-the-top campy and silly, I don't think they are meant to be taken seriously.

I yawn whenever Brokeback Mountain is on tv...
It's only a drama with a boring plot and some hot short scenes to make up for the lack of innovation.
Yes, gay men have to hide their relationships from an intolerant society. Ok, can you say something new to us???

I guess this was a huge milestone for american cinema, but c'mon... it's not like we've never seen a gay-themed european film. That movie is taken as to be the "film that changed gay cinema"... WTF?

Doesn't that contradict what you just said about The Birdcage?

No disrespect but how does that contradict with what I said? My point was that the Birdcage showed that two men can be in a loving long term relationship but Hollywood doesn't like to show that. BBM, on the other hand, while beautiful, was typical of Hollywood's treatment of gay relationships as tragic and filled with nothing but uncertainty and gloom.

Big Eden. There was no chemistry between anyone in that movie. I found myself wondering what they saw in the other and if/when they finally get together, what would they even talk about.

I agree about Big Eden, but however barely-there it was, it was well intended so I can't put it in my hated list.

"The Birdcage" was the "Amos and Andy" of gay films. Every stereotype under the sun.

I LOVED "Boys In The Band". Yes, it is very dated, but geez, it was THE first movie with a gay cast ever, so what do you expect? It also had the wittiest dialogue I've ever heard this side of "All About Eve"!

No disrespect but how does that contradict with what I said?

Well... not to be nitpicky, but you said:

"that doesn't sell in mainstream America which demands to see tragedy in all gay relationships"

and

"It showed that two men can be in love and not care what the world thinks of them."

I don't see how America can demand to see tragedy in all gay relationships, and also go to a popular movie in which two men can be in love and not care what the world thinks of them.
