Hey does anyone know any gay movies which are really sad and its awful what happens to the lead character or some of the characters due to abuse etc. I loved the film Mysterious Skin I thought it was a great movie which showed abuse and tragic endings so well, does anyone know anymore or even str8 movies with tragic endings, please help thanks guys!!

I actually just bought that book and am about to read it.

One of the most haunting gay movies to ever drop came out around 1990. It was called "The Living End." I think it's only available on VHS.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104745/

It dealt with two HIV-positive young men in their early-20's, a road trip, several attempted suicides and an ending that took you sky high and then shattered you and your libido back to earth.

Heartbreaking.

*** KEVIN IN SOUTH TULSA ***

An old movie called "Advise And Consent" about a presidential appointment had a subplot about a married senator who was blackmailed about a gay past. The Senator (Don Johnson) slits his own throat.

Ha Buah (The Bubble)

It's probably the best gay-themed movie I saw this year (though I think it was actually released in 2006)

There's also:

Yossi and Jagger
Lan Yu
The Trip

Seldom I come across gay themed movies with happy endings. Most of them, maybe due to wanting to be an artsy piece, tend to make life as a gay, depressing. Or maybe that's the punishment for being gay. I seriously celebrate all those that paint happy endings for the gay leads - Big Eden, Beautiful Thing, Trick, Latter Days (although the per-ending was depressing too), Birdcage, Shortbus and very few others.

Tragic?

Brokeback Mountain
Lan Yu
The Swordsman II
The Fluffer
Circuit
Embalmer
Amir Amat
Bishonen
O Fantasma
Soldier Girl
Priest
Bent

I'm sure there are more depressing gay themed films out there.

There have been a few, but "Soldiers Girl" left me completely drained. It left me depressed like no other movie ever has.

Relax... It's Just Sex. Presque Rien (Come Undone in the US).

Its Amazing No One Has Mentioned "Philidelphia" That movie always sticks out in my mind as one of the most real movies ive ever seen

Speedway Junky - It wasn't entirely gay themed but it dealt with the issue of a gay character falling in love with a straight one (Jesse Bradford), ultimately ending in tragedy. It was touching and depressing all at once.

JohanLarson, while "Boys In The Band" is sort of depressing, it also has the wittiest dialogue I've ever heard. It's more quotable than "All About Eve"!

The overwhelming majority of gay themed movies have tragic endings. That's the easiest way to pick up minor indy film awards.

Hey guys, Does anyone know anymore I am sorry to be a pain but I have most of them lol, anyone know of the indy movies :( I am sorry for being so annoying

I would say "Swoon" is tragic mainly because of how stupid the main characters were and what happened to at least one of them at the end.

"Proteus" ends sadly. It's based on historical trial records of an interracial love relationship of two convicts in South Africa in the 18th century.

Yeah the ending of that one always got me a little misty. Was so tragic and unnecessary. :(
