  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Most you ever paid just for a haircut???

Haircuts are like shoes: always go for the cheap or the expensive option. It's a waste of money going for something in the middle. I'd say $75 for a good cut, $15 for a cheap one. There's not much difference between a $15 cut and $40 cut, but there's a huge difference $40 cut and a $75 one.

Of course there are ludicrous, Bill Clinton-style $300 haircuts, but that's more about celebrity than technique.

My friend, Stephanie worked at Sally Hershberger at John Freida on Melrose Place, and Sally charged $600.00. She was a receptionist there and got to meet all these celebrities like Paul McCartney, Tobey Maguire, Michelle Pfiefer, etc.

The talent was high, the place was beautiful, but really one is paying for the celeb cred.

I couldn't justify a 600.00 haircut.

Though, I have heard to get an expense cut and then have it maintenanced at an "average" priced salon.

Rule of thumb...if you find someone you like DON'T EVER LET THEM GO. Tell them you appreciate their work, tell them you want them to stay in their salon for a while (too many stylists salon-hop, usually the result of bad management practices), and again, NEVER LET THEM GO.

Precisely. :=D:

Around $20.

I've never been happy wih a haircut ever so I've been cutting it myself recently, it still looks shit but I save $20 and don't have to sit through half an hour of inane banter.

For me, about $15 or so, with tip. My old, fine, oily, thinning and graying hair doesn't want to do anything so I go cheap. Until I stop in the Twin Cities and have Transpogue do something with it. (!)

Most I've ever PAID was a gift for my Mom. She was complaining that in the itty bitty backwater of a town she lives in she couldn't find anyone under 60 to cut her hair and EVERYONE in town had the same matronly hairdo, so when she flew out to Colorado a couple of years ago to visit, I hooked her up with a pretty decent hair person, who colored, cut, and did her magic. Mom was THRILLED, it cost me $95. A nice Mother's Day present. :D

I think the most I ever paid was $120.

That was to get the color stripped out of my hair, then to get it re-colored and cut.

Now I usually pay $80 bucks to get highlights.

In the city, $60 without tip. However, she was REALLY good. I don't know much about hair school, but I think there's a pretty big difference between Vidal Sassoon Academy and a local cosmetology school. Anyways, she was trained at really good programs (Sassoon, Bumble, etc.). Always had a consistent cut from her.

Now it's summer, and I'm back home. I had to get my hair cut last week and decided to go to a local salon and was charged $25. Result: noticeable downgrade from the $60. My hair was uneven in some places and I could tell while she was cutting, that she missed a few places.

Anyways, I'm not saying that a $100 haircut is better than a $20, unless, the person has good credentials.

$16 max I think.

Now $10 + $3 tip. Clipper #2 on sides and back, a bit longer and thin it out on top...I'm not that stylish at all.

a high end hair cut was $35 (haircut n some jell at the end ) back in the good days Now back to reality $12
plus a tip

Once I paid $20 and I felt cheated because they guy who did it didn't really do that good of a job.

Now I go somewhere else and they do it much better for only $13.

I pay $30 and that includes tip. Been using the same stylist for 15 years. He recently moved (again) and I told him he better not increase prices or I might have to find someone else. I probably wouldn't; I'm happy with his work and he's cute!

My sister goes to a "Master Stylist" and pays $75. I could never do that!

Before I did hair, $70 I think.

Not worth the cost for what was received, but the odds of both cost and quality falling into perfect alignment in this industry is slim to nil.

My curly cuts for new clients are $70. I can sleep at night charging this because:

1. They are usually seeing me only four times a year (the cut itself is designed to grow out very well and not show a loss of shape for some time)

2. I back my shit up and will fix any problems they see

3. I'll always offer a free consultation. You should know exactly what you're getting before you get it

You also told me you'd have one of the assistants give a reach around!

ARGHHH!

The Gods of Hair have given me a dose of hair karma.

Just gave my 'do a quick snip and I now look deranged, like I just escaped from Bellevue. Not cute! I'm gonna have to go to a real barber on Monday.

$40 to $50, I think.

Both guys would have done it for free, but due to conflict of interest with my employer I paid up.

The haircuts were worth $100 or much more...
