How much do you love this film!?

I just watched it for the first time... well the second time but the first time I watched it was so long ago that it felt like my first time! I love this movie. The performances from Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor were amazing (Nicole Kidman is always amazing but the only film I'd seen Ewan in was Star Wars) and their singing voices especially Ewan's was very good, surprisingly...

There's so much going on on screen throughout the movie, I love the songs. And I had a little cry at the end.

I love this film. It's now in my Top 10 favourite movies of all time.

My family and friends all laugh at me because I've seen this film like a hundred times. Definitely one of my all time favorites. It just gets better and better.

Pretty good show. I am a fan of Baz Luhrman's flicks like Romeo + Juliet and Strictly Ballroom.

I like it, although the middle does sag a bit. An ex of mine would always watch it when he wanted to feel loved up and horny. That's a lot of Tolouse Letrec to get through...

I love everything from Baz Luhrman - haven't seen Australia...

You seriously didn't like Romeo and Juliet? Man I love that one too. The only thing I dislike about Romeo and Juliet is the way everyone is introduced with their name at the bottom of the screen.

Perhaps you dislike the whole modern setting too, I can see how that might ruin the original story for some.

lol! Watch this!

I wanted to post the Disney one but the sound has been disabled...

Right. Well I'm going to watch Australia! lol
When I'm done we'll find out whose best friend I can be! ;)

Moulin Rouge is a good film... a lil bit too long for me, but still OK

I just watched Australia and the verdict is... it was a good film - so I have bad taste?

I wouldn't say it was good all the way through and it was a lot different to what I expected it to be after seeing the trailers and even after the first hour and a half.
I actually thought that was where the movie was going to end but saw that I was only halfway through...
I thought a lot more was going to be set on the characterisation as they got the cattle to the ship.

It was a bit too long for me and I would watch it again, but probably not for a while. Hugh Jackman (who I've never seen in a movie and was not attracted to him from pictures I had seen.) is perfect in his role and is actually total SEX!!!
And Nicole Kidman was also very good in her role and am not sure she has been better in anything else.

The film had its ups and downs. I thought the whole evil dude thing was not particularly neccessary had it only been the first hour and a half. All in all I thought it was pretty epic.

I felt though, that it was slightly choppy (it being split into three acts) and I was emotionally invested in the characters but not really their relationships. It never showed you them living comfortably as a family so neither the contrast and danger of the bombing was not extremely effective and it was also obvious that they would be brought back together.

I'm going to compare this (slightly) to Slumdog Millionaire because they are the only two recent films I have watched. And this is a much better effort at creating a movie I would want to see and most of all watch again.

Anyone love the Kangaroo bit at the beginning. LOL!

Maybe I'll watch it again this week. I haven't seen it in a while.

LOL. You might have bad taste, but you also seem to have a good sense of humor. Which is refreshing on this site. (*8*)

Well at least I made up for my bad taste in some way! It's definitely not the best film I've ever seen and it hasn't made it's way into my top 10 like Moulin Rouge did. But it was enjoyable. (*8*)

And you are officially my friend! :D And yeah, I loved that Kangaroo bit, haha. It was unexpected.

Yay! I have an official friend!(*8*)
The film was filled with lots of different emotions. It made me laugh and it made me cry as well. Not at the same time. It was great.

.

Romeo & Juliet is bad, and Australia is downright awful.

Australia was way beyond awful.
Kidman has had so much botox her face was absolutely devoid of expression.
Most of the characters were caricatures and bad ones at that. We managed to watch for 15 minutes and then began fast-forwarding (a family member had given us the dvd to watch).
The photography, however, was stunning.

Strictly Ballroom was very well done. Some of the characters in it were caricatures, but they were well done as such, and it worked. The dance sequences with pretty boy Paul Mercurio and the girl were amazing.

I wondered how I was going to get through Australia when it's 2.5 hours long... But I've sat through longer and managed to get through it and I enjoyed it. But I have bad taste lol!
I love the scene with Hugh Jackman pouring that bucket of water over himself! Ooh!

Strictly Ballroom is brilliant - I watched it in little parts for my media studies class but think I'm going to have to watch it again in one go. Much more enjoyable.

Call me an old softie but one scene always gets me - when scott and the girl are backstage, dancing to Doris Day singing "perhaps perhaps perhaps," it gets me every time.

You won't admit you love me, and so
how am I ever to know
you only tell me perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.
They don't write songs like that any more. Sigh.

The scenes with Scott and the girls dad doing the Paso Doble (sp?) are pretty nifty also.

Such a well done little film.

Yes, they are both great songs!
I'm going to watch it tomorrow. It's too late to start watching something now!

It's amazing how some small scenes in films can tug at your heartstrings every time you see them.
