In all honesty, I'd have guessed the trip would have been considerably more expensive!

However -- if you only want to go to the base camp, you can do it through Wilderness Travel for I think about 6K.

That's right, you can't get a picture of the summit of Everest if you're already there!

And apparently, if there's a line behind you, you get like 5 minutes on the summit.

I have cousins who did that on their honeymoon.

Never asked them how much it cost.

I thought the question would be tacky.

Well I see from this year's catalog that it's now $3295, less than I thought. But apparently you don't even overnight at the Base Camp. I wonder if there have been restrictions placed on how many people can stay there.

Doesn't include airfare, but for 25 days that's not too bad. You sure would spend more than that in New York (or even Brooklyn).

Wow! I have no desire to go to the summit--- but I'd like to visit and do what I'm able physically to do. A couple months ago I rented Michael Pallin's "Himalaya" from Netflix and thoroughly enjoyed it. The country is awesomely beautiful. I think that it would not only be a physical experience--- but a spiritual one as well!

although for all that equipment that is included, I would hope that you get to keep it after the climb and take it back home. Otherwise, that's mighty expensive rental equipment.

I walked up the backside of Annapurna in a pair of cheap flip flops many years ago. Cost me well under a hundred bucks, not including airfare and time in the city.

Makes me think that fifty dollars per yak is excessive. (Do the yaks eat the fifty dollars? Or, say, something less expensive?) Perhaps the cost of the exotic experience increases in proportion to the lack of oxygen.

It seems like a waste of a lot of time and money just to climb a pile of rocks, they should just put in a chair lift or pave a road to the top.

Everest is the tallest mountain, and gets a lot of attention, but K2 is "the King of Mountains". K2 ranks in just below Everest height wise, but it is considered to be much more difficult and requires advanced mountaineering skills. Tell someone you climbed Everest and they're impressed tell someone you summited K2 and they're amazed.
