Hey, I understand all that. I do think a celebrity needs to weigh all the factors before going public. But I don't think turning it into a sideshow event ("Guess The Fag!") is going to help matters any.

I know who Chely Wright is. I'm familiar with her music. However, this is a bit of a letdown, LoL. Why all the buildup for someone that 90% of the general population doesn't even know? Chely hasn't had a big radio hit since the 90's, and even then she was sort of a flash in the pan. Maybe that's what this media blitz is all about. Perhaps she wants to use this to re-ignite her career.

With all the buzz, I thought this was going to be someone big. Possibly a male. Lesbians are already more accepted in society than gay men so I was really hoping this would be a well-known male celebrity.

Oh well. Kudos to Chely.

It makes sense that it could be her...according to Wikipedia, she has a book coming out on May 4th...right on time for the all the publicity (she hopes anyways.) I could really give a shit...:##:

The buildup wasn't the media; it was from us, the gay community. The original media reports didn't say much when this all started several weeks ago. But our imagination, hopes, and dreams got everyone worked up thinking it was actually going to be a big, hot, male star. Most everyone just assumed the person was going to be even more popular than Ricky Martin.

Well, it was a rumor for a long time that Rhianna was a lesbian, because she wrote Umbrella for her close female friend, and says they're still very close to this day and love each other a lot.

Maybe she's coming out vicariously through this country singer lady? :p

By thanking her partner of so-many years while accepting an award, the same way that David Alan Grier came out.


I actually like the idea of coming out by simply saying "I'm in a relationship with a man", rather than attempting to make a huge media spectacle about it like the person this thread's about is doing.
