LOL You think Claymates didn't buy his album because they cared so much about quality of music? Clay was marketed and aimed towards older conservative women for his wholesome, harmless, good Christian boy appeal. He lost a lot of those fans because of coming out.

Um, what about these two?

I listen to country music and I didn't remember her with out looking up what songs she is known for. Country Music is a tough genre for people to come out in with it's reputation for portraying "wholesome american values" like getting drunk, going to jail, and bar fights. Not to mention cheating and divorce. I can understand why there isn't a flood of country artists coming out. For many country stars, having the world know that they are in a monogamous stable homosexual relationship would just ruin their credibiltiy as a country star. How could you possibly expect anyone to believe a song about a bar fight in a gay bar. "You ain't butch enough to take my bear..." yeah, that's gonna be a chart topper.

All joking aside, she may not be well known, and the timing of her announcement coinsiding with her new book and an upcoming album release may look opportunistic (maybe it is, I don't know). But she decided to come out. Maybe that will be worth something to someone who is afraid to be who they are. It would be nice if we lived in a society where everyone could just be themselves, but we don't. I suspect that there are even people here on JUB that aren't completely open about themselves. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a few closeted NASCAR fans on here, or maybe a couple of people who secretly prefer a quiet night at home to going out clubbing. Maybe some day we will have a gay action hero. A buff, hung, super stud in pink spandex saying "Unhand him you beast" Well, maybe on second thought...

"Hon, grab a couple of beers, they're running highlights of Daytona on Speed Channel... What?... Oh hell no, we don't need to watch drag race, Tyra won... Yeah, she stole it from Raven...

John Rich has issued a public apology to Chely Wright for the homophobic comment(s) he made to her several years ago.

Chely claims: “[John] said, ‘You’re not gay are you?!’ I said, ‘No, John, I’m not.’ He said, ‘Good, thank God.’ And that began a spiral for me. I had a meltdown shortly after that.”

Here's his apology...
I would never pass judgment on any friend of mine. I feel awful that, at this time in Chely’s life, my decade old comment – ‘Good, thank God’ – was taken the wrong way. I was clumsily trying to express my relief that even a country boy like me had a one-in-a-million chance of having a beer with a woman as talented and attractive as Chely. For years after that conversation, Chely invited me to perform at charity events. In all that time, I wish she would have said something directly to me before the book’s publicity tour, especially since some of the comments attributed to me in the book are not mine. But I am happy for her and only wish her the best in her personal and professional life.
He can claim she misunderstood his words 'til he's blue in the face, but I'm not buying it -- not after THESE comments he made a few years ago on Steve Gill's radio show...
I think if you legalize gay marriage, you've got to legalize some other things that are pretty unsavory. You can call me a radical, but how can you tell an aunt that she can't marry her nephew if they are really in love and sharing the bills? How can you tell them they can't get married, but something else that's unnatural can happen?
