I am so tired of all of the LGBT options on Netflix; everything always seems to be a Coming Out story, a First Romance, or some other variation of the same tired thing. Can anyone recommend a gay themed movie (doesn't need to be on Netflix), that is modern and just about gay people doing things that straight people do in films? In other words, something like Queer as Folk was, where the novelty wasn't that the characters are gay, but the other aspects of their lives.

I'd recommend Man in an Orange Shirt. It's two parts British mini-series. Very moving and touching love story. Too bad I can insert a poster or a trailer. JUB is banned in Thailand. I have to use a third-party website to get here. It's kinda limit my access. :(

It's not modern, but Cruising is excellent.

'Making Love' is cheesy but it broke doors by showing Harry Hamlin and Michael Ontkean kiss way back when. Im sure its on Youtube. I like the Roberta Flake theme song, which is also probably on Youtube

Maybe a search of 'editiors choice gay movie' might bring some other results of movies I cant remember

Taxi zum Klo is an LGBT masterpiece.

Flawless is painful and amusing at the same time.

Wilde Stephen Fry is the best Oscar Wilde on screen so far.

Cachorro drama about gay bears taking care of a nephew.

Chuecatown funny murder mystery/relationship drama with bears (the title is based on Roman Polanski's Chinatown).

Even Cowgirls Get the Blues wonderful book adaptation by Gus van Sant.

Shazam is terrific. It is on PPV and dvd and soon at Redbox. Levi is stunning in the costume.

I think it’s harder for movies to portray a more everyday snapshot of gay life because they really only have 2 hours to play with and so movies tend to be more about the dramatic moments of gay life to hold viewers attention. TV series do that better in my opinion. Something like Looking which was on HBO would be worth seeking out

Man in an Orange Shirt is excellent! Watch both parts in sequence one after the other. I've watched it several times. I'd advise you NOT look at any previews or trailers. It's better that the story reveal itself without any spoilers!
