I don't know about living situaiton (I mean I really havve no idea lol) but I don't think moving to AZ is crazy. I've never found the heat to be that bad (and people really like the winters) though I don;t live in Phoenix, I live in Tucson, which is a little cooler since the elevation is higher and PHX has so many roads. I ahve vacationed to humid places in the summer and it sucks compared to dry heat.

here's a story i wrote for the school paper a little while ago, in the edition that is mailed out to all the Freshmen.

Most of us have allergies and want to get away from it.

Because of the massive influx of people fleeing the snow belt, Phoenix has been one of the fastest growing cities in the US for several years now. Everyone comes with the dream of having a nice house, with a swimming pool, and landscaped yard. What this means, is there is now a lot of water vapor (humidity) in the air, and since many of these new Arizonans miss the green green grass of home, they plant and water (which is scarce) vast lawns which also contribute to the humidity. Additionally, the local plant merchants have discovered there is a thriving market for foreign imported plants (especially tropicals, since the humidity has risen so much) and you will be exposed to many more exotic allergens than you are currently exposed to in the snow belt. This coupled with the fact, that the native cactus blooms are severe allergens in themselves, expect to be sneezing year around.

Not that Arizona isn't one of the most beautiful places on earth, but the influx of people unsure of how to live with a delicate environment such as a desert, have caused major changes to take place there and will ultimately destroy its beauty and livability. Enjoy it while you can. . .

With seven adults...make sure that there is a lot of parking available, a big kitchen, plenty of bathrooms. I think that you are going to find that you will probably need a home that is over 10,000 square feet to really be comfortable. I had a neighbor that had that many kids...and adults take up more room...and they found 3,000 square feet to be way too small for them...they ended up getting a 10,000 square foot home.

Wow!

I re-read your initial post of the thread and ALL the remarks again, and I find what you guys doing inspirational!

NO, I don't think you're crazy, for usually crazy people do NOT plan out a "plan of attack" including a contract whereby you sign away your lease/option for two years that does NOT allow you to sack the contract!

I say, now all that's really, really important is the location/square footage/bathrooms (haha) in the mini-hotel that you are gonna rent/buy! lol

Good luck and please keep us informed on what's going on, for I think many of us are intrigued by this move of yours!(*8*) (*8*)

I have a cousin, who grew up in Phoenix. She moved to Portland, Oregon about 15 years ago and swears she would rather die, than move back to Phoenix. Her Brother lives in Payson (north of town, in the mountains, I think) and drives in to work at one of the casinos. He, also, would not move back into Phoenix. I can't speak from personal experience, because my one trip to there was in 1967 and I was only 5. Can't remember the trip.

I agree with Zeremonie, go to the northwest. Portland is an amazing city. The hubby and I are heading there in August. I would like to retire, out there.
