Not sure about that.
i'm glad that some of the men look "average" to some of you. Here's the mission statement:
"mr. Gay world is defined as an annual contest for gay men, seeking to establish ambassadors for lgbt and human rights, with winners of national contests competing as delegates in a variety of categories. it is not a beauty contest and there is no age limit. This competition is one of the most publicised gay contests in the world and unashamedly uses the attention it garners to focus attention on the plight of lgbti people worldwide. The primary purpose of mr. Gay world is to identify leaders who will take responsibility of being a spokesperson not only in his own community but on a global stage speaking out for equal and human rights. Mr gay world is a role model and will work on humanizing being gay and/or lgbti in the media both lgbti and mainstream."
frankly, the gay community's focus on beauty is what creates so many problems for its citizens. Guys who are perfectly lovely-looking men compare themselves to the muscle-bound peacocks in the community and find themselves lacking. Any healthy society would stress inner beauty more than outer beauty. And having lived in gay mecca (san francisco) for nearly 30 years, i saw the "class divisions," and would hear some of the "a" crowd guys clucking sympathetically to some other guy looking at some local beauty and being discouraging to that person (e.g. "he's-out-of-your-class"-type thinking), more a function of shallow and superficial perspectives than anything that encouraged healthy psychological and spiritual growth. And the guys promoting this "we're-the-"a"-crowd" arbiters of that era ('70s -'80s) were frequently pretty maladjusted guys. I knew quite a few of them and found it sad that they were the ones who dismissed some great-looking guys (usually out of jealousy, from my perspective) just because the guy wasn't built like "us".
I'm glad this contest eschews such shallow criteria. Harvey milk would certainly not have won this contest, let me tell ya, but who among us did more during the mid-late '70s to promote a healthy sense of self-esteem and positive self-image for gays?? If it wasn't for harvey, many, many guys would still be closeted and filled with low self-esteem and self-loathing.
So, lets hope for someone who represents the most beautiful part of us: Our souls and our right to exist, not our faces and bodies.

Sorry,based on the wikipedia page,
I think Mr Gay Spain just takes over the title until Mr Gay World 2020 can be crowned?
Since last year winner, Mr Gay Philippines's reign is over.
Though there won't be any Mr Gay World this year due to Convid Virus.
