MS August updates - another security cockup

Your link isn't working for me, Franion.
. . .
(My apologies for stepping on your thread, Franion).

Thanks, T-Rexx, no probs: they all say the same thing.

Part of the answer to the Microsoft dilemma is that they had the marketing savvy at the beginning when it mattered. Now they have the marketing PLUs a few billion $$$ to throw at presumptuous upstart challengers. Linux becoming more user friendly and Google/Web2 style ad-supported freebies will probably do them in in 5-7 years.

I cant wait to need an internet connection to use all my software.

Yet another reason to use Unix/Linux opposed to Windows
Sucks to be MS, they must be the only people in the world who cant write perfect, 100% secure software.

MS isnt going anytime soon. They make very good, easy to use products

^ so why to i have to press the START button to SHUTDOWN the computer ;) ?

I don't see MS going anywhere anytime soon either. their OS has a lot of security issues, but i think that if Mac or Linux were anywhere near as popular they would have security issues also. That's just a guess, i have nothing to base that on.

lol ok see i know very little about the indepth security issues in MS. i thought it was mostly because they were targeted by hackers and virus folks...but looks like that's not true?

networking was grafted onto Windows.
That was true of the 9x codebase, not the Nt codebase.

It has become, as we say, "spaghetti code" - it's full of millions of lines of code which no one - not even anyone at MS - today understands. It is a disaster which MS cannot sustain forever.
Again not true, of vista at least. That is why they took so long to make it, they "rebooted" the development and began to use the Windows 2003 codebase, which is much cleaner, componentized and there arnt millions of lines of code which they dont understand. Perhaps you should actually the time to get information from actual microsoft developers, like on MSDN blogs.

That's why lots of us joke about the day when MS finally bites the bullet and releases MS-Linux!
This will happen....never. Ever. Not even a chance. If anything they are most likely to use Singularity as their new code base, using virtualization for BC. One of the other main reasons MS is so popular is the fact you can still run DOS programs from the 80s on their most recent version, something you cant do with most other platforms.

Apple also went to the Intel processors, I'm sure, because there is so much more work being done in the open source community on the BSD kernel for Intel processors than there is for the PPC kernel
Er Apple moved because IBM couldnt deliver the performance. The difference was so bad even apple's marketing department couldnt fake better performance anymore.

i thought it was mostly because they were targeted by hackers and virus folks...but looks like that's not true?
It most certainly is. After all, would you rather spend the time trying to find a way to break into one of the most popular operating systems in the world, or one that has 2% of the marketshare?

when MS bought hotmail, they migrated everything to Windows servers.
and hotmail stopped working because of technical limitations :D
they switched back to *nix and migrated to windows again a few years ago after they finally got it working ;)
well however, i don't use hotmail anymore since they bought it ;)

There is no difference in performance between Apple's first run of Intel Macs and their recent G5 PPCs.
Are you serrious? Take a look at apple's own (albiet BS website) they claim improvements of over 2x.

Also Philip su is a dev on the table pc. His view of dependancies are most likely from applications, dlls and libraries and are not specific to the underlying fundamentals of the OS, like the kernal.

When you maintain compatibility, you also maintain the problems and security issues of the previous OS.
Introducing Windows vista, now including a sandbox.

On a proportionate basis, Linux is by far the most attacked OS in the world. That is because Linux powers the vast majority of web servers and internet sites generally, including Google and Amazon.
It is the most attacked server OS, not the most attacked desktop OS.

It is not coincidence that most of the world has adopted Linux for this purpose – Windows simply can't manage it, and is too insecure.
Right, thats so true. Which is why the most popular site on the web, mySpace, runs on Lin...oh wait, it runs on Windows 2003. As does MSN, which is the second most trafficed site on the net, and Microsoft and Intel, and ebay and so on. And look at that, the london stock exchange trusts Windows:

Yup, windows isnt up to the task.

What does MS use to power their own websites? Unix! They once tried using NT, but it was too slow to handle the traffic and was too insecure!
Again, no. MS used the caching and global delivery services of Akamai, who happen to run Linux. Microsoft had neither the bandwith nor the network to remain online during a massive DDoS attack. It was not due to a limitation of Windows.

when MS bought hotmail, they migrated everything to Windows servers.
and hotmail stopped working because of technical limitations
Yup, and now its one of the most trafficked sites on the net and it runs Windows.
