Just thought I'd share this story with you all....

I have a 8 year old female cat, Pumpkin. She once had one kitten when she was 2 years old. After he was weaned off her, I neutered both her and the kitten (called Oreo). I also had Pumpkin's blood tested for anything she could have contracted while mating, because I didn't know the male she mated with. Her blood test came back okay.

We live in a villa, and Pumpkin and Oreo often go outside to sit in the trees and stuff. They like to spend the afternoon outside but we will always keep them indoors for the night. This evening however, Pumpkin came back carrying a tiny kitten with her! It's a small kitten, it's eyes are open and it can walk and stuff but I did some reading around and I think it's 1 month old (vet estimates it at 3 weeks old). Very small teeth, the kitten can fit in my hand, looks clean.

I'm sure its not Pumpkins, if she were pregnant I would know, and she was neutered. She never went in heat for the past I don't know how many years. No swelling of the teats or anything. Pumpkin carries the kitten with her where ever she goes and cleans it too. When Oreo tries to investigate the kitten Pumpkin will shoo him away and protects the kitten. When I pick it up she always gives this weird meow and waits till I put it down. Oddly enough the kitten seems to respond to her meow. It's a very low tone but loud, different meow.

I planned to take the kitten to a vet just to make sure it's okay and healthy. But Pumpkin threw a riot and wouldn't let me leave her behind. I ended up taking both her and the kitten to the vet together. All the time the vet was investigating the kitten Pumpkin was on the counter looking to make sure he didn't do anything to harm the little kitty.

The kitten is actually healthy, just either abandoned or lost and Pumpkin ended up finding it. I placed an ad in the paper and in the vet's office for a found kitten, but haven't gotten any calls yet.

It gets quite chilly outside at night, even for Pumpkin and Oreo so they always sleep inside. I figured if left alone, this kitten could die overnight so I've decided to let Pumpkin adopt the kitten. She does basically everything for the kitten except feed it. I have to feed the kitten with Pumpkin watching my every move but I just think it's so cute how she picks it up and takes it everywhere and sleeps with it all the time.

Today, Pumpkin didn't go out for bird watching. She spent the afternoon cleaning the kitten and cuddling with it. I think I'll call the kitten Cloud because it's completely white in color.

I just was so happy with the new addition to my family, thought I'd share with you guys.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww.

That is the greatest story.

Pics please.

Just when I thought cat's couldn't get any more cuter, this came along. X3

But yeah, pics be much appreciated. :3

Love your story! I had Munchkin, a spayed female dark calico two years ago and someone brought in a very young male brown tabby, which I named Nate. Munchkin, basically a very timid and fairly jealous cat, quickly came down and she adopted him, taking care of him, training him, etc. Wonderful mother for Nate.

That is a sweet story! Well, unless she killed the mother and all the other kittens so she could keep this one. But who's to know? lol

There are lots of JUB kitty lovers who are smiling at this story. Including me.

My cat Homer and his pal Stubby (who's my nephew's cat, actually) have left the room for a moment, but I'll give them extra hugs when they come back in.

I wonder where Pumpkin got this kitten. I hardly ever see kittens just wandering around. Where did it come from?

Never posted a picture before, so I'm going to try with one first. This is Cloud when Pumpkin went to the litter box.

Oh.

My.

God.

My heart just melted.

Lucky Pumpkin.

Lucky you.

As an all white cat, do you know if it is deaf?

You'll know by the colour of the eyes.

Because it can track down Pumpkin simply by following her meow, I think it's not deaf.

So beautiful...I would have stole it away from it's Momma too!!!

My oldest kitty "adopted" the younger one too. We had a number of cats and when the new guy came to live with us Al decided to take the younger Colin under his wing. He showed him where the litter box was and helped him cover everything up when he was finished. And the lengthy tongue baths were a staple every evening---Colin just lay there while Alley made sure he was completely clean...cute and disturbing at the same time.

Oh my God, I would die of over-happiness if my kitty brought THAT Beautiful Kitten home!!! :luv::luv::luv::luv::luv: It's so precious!!!

So full of beauty... When I see cats like this, if comfort me in my belief that God indeed exist:

Bud and Rubee would do this. It was known as 'licking them out of the way' Their tongue baths would be so aggressive and long that eventually the one being licked would move and the other would get the best place to sleep.

We also had a feral cat that hung around and turned up one day with a little kitten who he shared his food with.

But nothing as down home cute as Cloud.

Feral cats usually change the location of their litter once it's close to 1 month old. They usually do this because they know the old place is dirty and they don't want their kittens to get ill in the original location of the litter. Remember cats eat the feces of their kittens too, so the place where she gives birth doesn't stay clean long. The vet thinks the mother accidentally lost this one while she was transferring them over. She says its a mistake new mother cats make sometimes.

The vet's other guess was that someone accidentally touched this kitten. Home-raised cats don't mind this because their kittens get the scent of the people they know. However feral cats perceive the scent as foreign and usually abandon the kitten because they don't want the kitten to attract other cats by the new scent.
