Mt cat adopted a kitten

I love kitty stories like this...

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

is what everyone says.

Just thought I'd share this story with you all....

I have a 8 year old female cat, Pumpkin. She once had one kitten when she was 2 years old. After he was weaned off her, I neutered both her and the kitten (called Oreo). I also had Pumpkin's blood tested for anything she could have contracted while mating, because I didn't know the male she mated with. Her blood test came back okay.

We live in a villa, and Pumpkin and Oreo often go outside to sit in the trees and stuff. They like to spend the afternoon outside but we will always keep them indoors for the night. This evening however, Pumpkin came back carrying a tiny kitten with her! It's a small kitten, it's eyes are open and it can walk and stuff but I did some reading around and I think it's 1 month old (vet estimates it at 3 weeks old). Very small teeth, the kitten can fit in my hand, looks clean.

I'm sure its not Pumpkins, if she were pregnant I would know, and she was neutered. She never went in heat for the past I don't know how many years. No swelling of the teats or anything. Pumpkin carries the kitten with her where ever she goes and cleans it too. When Oreo tries to investigate the kitten Pumpkin will shoo him away and protects the kitten. When I pick it up she always gives this weird meow and waits till I put it down. Oddly enough the kitten seems to respond to her meow. It's a very low tone but loud, different meow.

I planned to take the kitten to a vet just to make sure it's okay and healthy. But Pumpkin threw a riot and wouldn't let me leave her behind. I ended up taking both her and the kitten to the vet together. All the time the vet was investigating the kitten Pumpkin was on the counter looking to make sure he didn't do anything to harm the little kitty.

The kitten is actually healthy, just either abandoned or lost and Pumpkin ended up finding it. I placed an ad in the paper and in the vet's office for a found kitten, but haven't gotten any calls yet.

It gets quite chilly outside at night, even for Pumpkin and Oreo so they always sleep inside. I figured if left alone, this kitten could die overnight so I've decided to let Pumpkin adopt the kitten. She does basically everything for the kitten except feed it. I have to feed the kitten with Pumpkin watching my every move but I just think it's so cute how she picks it up and takes it everywhere and sleeps with it all the time.

Today, Pumpkin didn't go out for bird watching. She spent the afternoon cleaning the kitten and cuddling with it. I think I'll call the kitten Cloud because it's completely white in color.

I just was so happy with the new addition to my family, thought I'd share with you guys.

That meow Pumpkin makes to Cloud, I know what you mean. My cat Peach used to make the same sound to her kittens. They instantly responded to it. Kind of like a mix of a meow and a low growl. Anyway, thanks for that touching story and picture! Just so cute. Cloud looks like a ball of cotton!
