It's been a strange sort of a day. I was shivering on the way to the hospital after the call from my sis keeping vigil overnight, as it was so cold and the sun hadn't begun to rise yet. I saw my sis first, and then saw mum, within the fifteen minutes from the call to getting there, she'd passed away. Her colour had gone, and she was peaceful. I cried.
We waited for everyone to arrive, and one by one all six of us stood at the end of her bed and around her. We talked about what to do now she wasn't there. There was the awkwardness of gathering her things. Through the window, to use a homerian allusion, the rosey fingered dawn began to ligten the horizon. It was a clear day, a beautiful sunny day.
I joined JUB shortly before she had a stroke and heart attack that left her disabled. She lived with us and now her room downstairs is empty. The void she left won't be filled except with our memories.
It has been cathartic writing about this, it has helped me grieve and love, and put into words I would have bottled up. Thanks folks for listening to my ramblings. You folks are wonderful.

My mom died on Oct 22 nine years ago. She, too, had a precipitous decline and passed peacefully in my arms as I spoke to her and told her how much she is loved by all the family ...
she lives on in my heart and mind ... thoughts of her and my dad come to mind often ... not sadly ... but beautifully .... and i am grateful for their fleeting visits
i pray that you, too, will be able to recall your parents with love and happiness and that they will live on through you ... as you are, after all, their legacy
