Re: Murder or mercy killing? Man throws ailing wife off balcony - couldn't pay her bi
I know of an elderly couple, happily married for almost sixty years, no financial pressures...great kids who all grew up and did well for themselves....close family, and no financial worries re: health care (this is Australia....for now!).
She had severe and worsening health problems which were largely manageable at home....but she became increasingly depressed as her health worsened.
As a couple they had always maintained they would never be parted, and dreaded the prospects of being separated in their old age due to ill health.
They went through a couple of years of her repeatedly asking him to kill her (as her depression and physical health declined).
To the neighbours and community they were both well respected and loved, and followed the same routine each day.
One morning they both took what they thought was an overdose....but he woke up and found she too was still alive. So he ended it for her with a metal bar.
Yes he killed her. It was against the law.
They were both depressed, but both trying to keep their committment together as a couple. He tried to honour her. He bludgeoned her. It didn't have to be that way. It's just what happened!
His only regret was that the joint overdose hadn't worked, and that they hadn't died together.
The end of her sufferring, as he saw it, he had no regret for. The way it happened will haunt him, and his family, for the rest of their days.
