awwww kev. I hate to hear about all this. I hope nothing comes back that is too negative, or that it will at least be treatable. Just tell him what you told us and just be there the best you can for him.

"Might have" and "does have" are two distinct things. Wait until the pathology report comes back. It's entirely possible that any nodules on his neck may be benign; we can certainly hope so. Even if the diagnosis is positive for ca, not all cancers are treated with chemo.
I wish there were a simple answer for your question, but I'm afraid that there isn't. Everyone deals w/cancer in a slightly different way. Cancer doesn't leave a lot of room for things like relationships. That's not to say that your relationship won't weather it; just that it will make things more difficult. If your boyfriend decides that he wants to erect a wall between you and himself while he's sick, there may be nothing you can do to prevent or deal with that, other than respect his wishes.
