You might try topical cocaine as a muscle relaxant.

Just a word of caution about pain during anal- if it's hurting, somethings not quite right. There's pain receptors there for a reason and ignoring them can lead to tearing of the retum or the tissue like membrane of the sphincter. Are you going slow? Using enough lube? Is he totally relaxed. The anal sphincter will open when someone is relaxed; not tensed. Did he have a bit of anal bleeding afterwards (a sure sign that it's going too fast or didn't use enough lube and gave you may have given him an anal fissure)

Some people are more tight than others (*ahem* this guy for instance) Don't rush anal sex, better to be safe than sorry- you do not want to cause a tear that won't heal itself as that can lead to a rectal infection that will need medical attention.
