  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

My City is on FIRE!!!

In the photo above, is that Cheyenne Mountain? If so, isn't there a zoo somewhere at its base? (I'm guessing NORAD is still there.)

What is really terrible is that they're now pretty sure it was an arsonist who started the fire.

Oh, the FUN some people have with matchsticks (and camp fires and cans of gasoline... and ciggie butts, too).

And then what's crazy is that so many western states continue to allow for fireworks sales. People do know that the west is a tinderbox, don't they? I mean, have they seen ANY footage of any of these huge wildfires in recent weeks?

You wonder what more will happen in coming days what with the 4th of July next week.

All personal use of fireworks is currently banned in Colorado for that reason. Many of the professional displays are being canceled as well.

Hopefully if that fire was arson, whoever did it will be caught.

Fixed that for you. :D

Apparently an elderly couple died that terrible night in Colorado Springs. I can't imagine the horror of dying being surrounded by fire. If I am reading between the lines properly (the full story isn't out yet), the husband was out when the firestorm erupted; she had limited mobility. He was seen pulling IN to his garage just as the last neighbor was fleeing from an oncoming wall of 300 foot high flames.

So far that makes 6 fatals in wildfires in Colorado this year.

Please send rain!

the fire is mostly contained...so that's good

How truly sad :( I think fire would be one of the worst ways to die

I was up in the mountains this weekend, and areas are just tinder dry up there

STILL haven't heard from Grant. It has been over a week now.

I am now seriously concerned. The 'missing' from last Tuesday haven't gotten any media coverage for about 72 hours but there are still a handful of folks that are still considered 'missing' in Colorado Springs.

PLEASE check in soon!

I didn't even know there were any 'missing' persons from the Colorado Springs fire, haven heard a thing about it on any of the news/media

Not sure I know of Grant on here.. is that his username or name? Hopefully he's ok

On better news it looks like the so-called 'monsoon season' is gonna begin so there will be a much better chance of meaningful rain in the coming week (there's ofcourse a down-side to that - those storms will also come with lightning and possible heavy rain (which could cause mudslides/flooding in the fire areas if the rain lasts too)) but pretty much anyone here will agree with the song lyric "rain is a good thing"

I went to that fundraiser concert on Friday night, and hung out with one of the bands afterwards. The band told me that after they left to go home, they were shocked to see several lawns on fire in their neighborhood. Apparently, somebody (somebodys?) had wandered around the neighborhood, setting fire to random lawns. The band stamped out all the fires except one, which was too big to put out. They called the fire department who put out the last one. No word on if they've got any leads...

Now it's known that Colorado fires were started by arsonists. It's hard to catch people that start wild fires but they should be giving life in prison without parole to arsonists. Earlier this week, C-130 tanker crashed fighting South Dakota wild fires killing four crewmen.

For those who haven't seen this photo and were wondering about the AFA

(That's Falcon Stadium in the foreground. Looks kinda tiny, eh?)

For the record, after a terrible night, things were better today, but the Colorado Springs fire is still at only 5% containment. Media estimates for homes lost last night are '200-300'; the official word won't be out for several days.

The fire above Boulder is only 35% contained but things are looking better; pre-evacuation has been lifted (for now) but some 50 fire departments are now deployed in Boulder.

DAYUM!!!! all that smoke coming from the mountain is BAD for your lungs, man.

That picture is both frightening and amazing. I was there a few years back for the Notre Dame-Air Force game. Sure didn't look like that.

God's revenge for Amendment 2? OK - all jokes aside hope it's under control now.

Its now 80% contained. If the weather coroporates well, it could be fully contained on the weekend.

I can clearly smell the smoke (and it looks a bit foggy-ish-looking) from one of the fires in my area today (probably the one near Boulder) & I'm quite a distance from it

Just an update on this:
The Waldo canyon fire has since been fully 'contained' (but is not yet 'out' )

Also in addition to the 2 people who died within the fire itself, There was one other sad story: A man who had evacuated from the fire was camping at Chatfield State Park...died in a drowning at the park's lake.
