... kidney stones.

At least we think it's just kidney stones. The x-rays haven't shown anything else, but he hasn't seen a consultant yet...

I mean, not that kidney stones aren't bad enough, but....

(is fretting, just a little.)

It's not a nice thing, but it's a fairly simple procedure to have them removed - i know several people who've had it done and everything usually goes smoothly.

hope ur dads ok.
but i thought kidney stones werent a big deal. i just thought they hurt until they passed, but thats it not serious at all.

sorry to hear that mate!!! its never nice having loved ones in hospital..hopefully the stones will be all sorted soon...surprising how common they are esp in men i notice..
im a nurse in the OR and sometimes we have peeps come thru and we take em out for them!!, thats of course if they cant be passed ...

try not to fret lil bud

I know they can put sonic waves towards the pelvis and break up the stones if they aren't too far down the urethra correct?

Sorry about your dad. I'm sure he will pull through!

Yes that is correct we use what we call the "lithoclast"... its incredible... in the previous hospital i worked at we used a laser.. was interesting to watch the stones be abliterated...

Man, I'm sorry to hear about his pain. I've had kidney stones twice - worst pain I've ever had. But - they're temporary. He'll probably be good as new in no time.

Fortunately, I didn't have to have lithotripsy (sonic abliteration of the stones). Two liters of saline (IV), 3 shots of morphine, 1 shot of Toradol, and 2 hours in the ER and they sent me home - where I passed the stones on my own.

"Get well soon" to your dad.

Just had another one about a month ago....oxycontin, morphine, toradol and gin; finally pissed it out just before I had the CT.

They're likely hereditary as well, so drink lots of fluids and don't just sit around. Diet actually has little to do with it.

He'll be as good as new in no time.

Yes, here's wishing him a speedy recovery! But no worries...21st century medicine has KS locked down pretty good.

Random thought: I've always found it interesting how peeps in the UK say "I went to hospital" and we say "I went to the hospital". Same with 'university'.

Random thought, continued: Yes, Americans say "went to THE university" however we say "went to college" or "...school" (no definite article "the" in that phrase).

Best wishes to your dad Winterknight, I think I had a kidney stone once that passed because I had horrific pain around where the urethra is (or is it the ureter? There's a vas deferens between the two hehehe), but no stone ever came out of the penis, so I don't know...

Its the Ureter. The tubes between the kidneys and the bladder.

The Urethra is the tube inside the penis. You remember the penis, right? ;)

Best Wishes for your Dad's speedy recovery Winterknight. And its ok to fret here. That's what we're for. To lend you support when you need it. (*8*)

when i was about 15 and on a Boy Scout camping trip, the Scoutmaster with whom i was riding had an acute kidney stone attack....

he was driving down the highway when he suddenly siezed up in pain....yelling to me to "take the wheel --- take the wheel".....i steered the car to the side of the road while he doubled over in the seat.....DAMN!

i thought he was dying....i think he did too....this was before the days of cell phones, but fortunately one of the other vehicles pulled over to survey the problem.....the victim was driven to the closest hospital and the Troop went ahead with the trip....all was eventually back to normal....

i hoped your Dad is back to normal quickly!....kidney stones are not usually the profound problem they used to be.......

My thoughts are with your dad and here's my sincerest wishes that he'll be on the road to recovery in no time!

WK my thoughts are with your Dad, try not to worry too much, whatever it is I am sure they will be able to sort it out. (*8*)

I know what your Dad is experiencing!

Kidney stones are like trying to pass a watermelon with prickly-pears on it's outside through your penis!

OUCH!

You "WILL" talk to your maker and beg to die.....NOW!

Totally NOT funny!

Give your Dad our wishes for a speedy-recovery..........he WILL get well/over-it once they've destroyed or God-forbid, he passes it/them!

Man, I got sympathy-pains just from thinking about your Dad's situation!(*8*) (*8*)

Update: he's home. The docs think he must have passed the stone in the night.

The x-ray showed that one kidney was a little swollen, but there don't appear to be any signs of infection, so he's just got to go back in for another scan in a week or so.

Phew.
