For over a year I've followed two guys from the USA as they traveled around Russia and Ukraine.

Johnny FD and his buddy, Bald & Bankrupt, fell in love with the Ukrainian people and actually bought a flat in Kyiv!

Finally on 25 February 2022, the two men made their escape out of the capital.

On 1 March 2022, they both made it to the European Union border of Hungary.

The escape videos are too long to post here, but here is a short clip of Johnny on Ukrainian TV News from last year.
(Bald & Bankrupt prefers to keep a low profile and declined to appear on local TV news)

I'm glad they are safe. I fear that things are about to go from bad to worse in Ukraine.

I'm so happy to read about your friends being SAFE (unlike a huge majority of those who are trying to get out). From our conversation I know that they've actually become important to you, and you've become fond of their blogs and videos, even though it's extremely unlikely you'll ever meet them.

This is only the second time I've ever changed my avatar for political reasons. (I've also had a "VOTE" avatar up a couple times, but that's not as much political, because it doesn't take sides.) It was most interesting seeing friggin' SWITZERLAND step away from their history of neutrality. Decency, in this case, trumps neutrality.

Glad to hear they are safe.

The way he spoke about Kyiv, they really love it there. It's sad that they needed to leave. Images I've seen in the past few weeks of the city make it look like such a charming city with beautiful architecture, shops, cafes, etc...it's got to be absolutely sickening to see the city they've come to love be decimated. I get upset seeing the destruction and lives being taken and ruined and I have no connection to the place, I can't even imagine how they feel. At least they're out and safe.

Up until 26 February 2022 I was sure the Russian attack would stop outside major cities - and WOW was I ever Wrong!

At first I thought that Johnny and B&B would be safe in any of the capital's underground rail stations.
Now those stations are hell holes of desperate people who now wish to leave, but its Too Late!

News portals mainly show young parents with children, but I wonder how seniors, people in hospitals and ones with physical or mental disabilities manage to flee from war :(

The terrible truth is the people who can't flee the cities are at the mercy of circumstances.
