My homophobic landlord

Heh. I actually do need curtains for my bedroom. It gets a little too sunny in there. (It faces west, so it shouldn't be sunny in the morning, but it does.)

Hmm... Tempting.

Someone on another board suggested that I hang it on the doorway to the apartment manager's office.

I'm going to play the devil's advocate here. What possible good could come out of you displaying a rainbow flag. Unless you live in an obviously gay neighborhood, like Castro or Chelsea, you're pretty much asking for unwanted attention. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for equal rights and against discrimination but you need to be aware of their sensitivity on the gay issue. Maybe your landlord doesn't want you hanging that flag around because it could make you or the building a potential target for real homophobes. Or maybe he doesn't want you hanging it there because it could misrepresent the community and scare away prospective tenants thinking that it was a gay community. Nevertheless, I have to take your landlord's side on this one as it was in the best interest for YOU and the community.

Darlin' this was the first town in the South to elect an openly gay mayor. Homophobia is the exception here, not the norm.

Indeed - I was in Carrboro! I had lunch at that nice place in town, whats the name - brick walls, hi ceilings...Help LilBit!

Lord, that describes a lot of places. Panzanella, maybe? Right behind the Weaver Street Market? You might also be thinking of the Spotted Dog. (Great place to meet lesbians...)

LMAO - I was thinking of that right after I posted. I remember it had a back entrance off the parking area behind the building. I emailed a dude who probably would remember.

Oh, yeah, Elmo's! They have really good veggie chili.

Yes I did like Carrboro. Didnt see your flag though :0

It was up less than twenty-four hours!

Now it's hanging on my closet door.

On the OUTSIDE.

you be careful.............but walk with pride.

don't let anyone push you around...............

You don't get it: the "uniformity" refers to sexual orientation.

BTW, it's tacky fags like you who give us all a bad reputation

i like being the only gay man in this town.......

It only states you can't the flag in the window, why not hang it eslewhere in the room?

Howzabout SEVERE INTESTINAL DISCOMFORT TO THE HATERS!!!

Actually, I believe it does. Convince me otherwise.
Well, it sure as shit ain't a light fixture. Signs and posters are usually printed on paper, and they have words on them. Besides, the wording of the lease is "alterations to the property," which to me suggests permanent modifications to the building, not temporary decorations.

Why did you put the flag there?
Honestly? I bought it a few months ago when I discovered what a raging bigoted asshole our maintenance guy is. I'd heard stories from friends who live in this complex, but I only got to hear him first-hand gradually. I put up the flag to send the message that not everyone appreciates his racist, misogynistic banter.

*insert raspberry here*

Ya know, I wonder if it was the maintenance guy who reported it to the landlord.

Broadly interpreted, a rainbow flag can be seen as a sign -- Kahaih has that right. It's an item intended to convey a message.

The silly thing is that it doesn't constitute an "alteration" to the property.
