OK here is the story...

I have no dvd player on my TV and i thought it would be cool to plug my laptop into my 40" TV via a VGA cable.

It works fine for about 30 minutes while watching a film, at which point it starts to flicker and then about 10 more seconds later the laptop blue screens and shuts down.

All i want to do is watch a whole movie on a big screen without my computer crashing.

Any idea's guys?

is it my laptop just saying hey, you working me too hard, i'm gonna have a nap while you kick, scream and swear?

I am thinking over heating too, classic symptoms. I'm sure there must be some windows rubbish prog that lets you monitor critical temperatures of components. We both know a geek who would know the answer, just have to put up with the noobishness for asking him! :)

Yeah Overheating sounds like it is
Make sure its on a good surface to
try to elvate it so the air flows out easyier

I have a movie ready.... i'll elevate it and see what happends!

If your laptop is overheating, consider getting a laptop cooling pad, and it can draw power from the usb ports.

Keep plenty of space around it for ventilation also helps.

Dust might be one of the factors too, so, consider having it cleaned inside, or try getting rid of the dust as much as you can.

Just watched a whole film with it proped up, it did flicker once but didn't blue screen. A error message saying the video drivers has failed but now has recovered or something like that.
i have a cooling pad but can't seem to find the power cable lol

sorry i'm late to the party i agree heating. i prop my laptop up and have a little fan blowing across it when i'm using it for something real labor intensive. that usually works, but not always.

Thing is my computer set on fire, "couch" "cough" Trawler69 "cough" "cough" so i have resorted to over using my laptop playing labour intensive games, watching movies and watching several hours of labour intensive porn. My laptop seems to struggle but i've got no other options at the moment

Have you ever considered something as simple as a small (desk) fan positioned to direct airflow across (not necessarily directly at) it? Set the fan on low, but make sure to get a quiet one and not a Scraping Scottie that is going to drown out the sound of your movie.
