I go there about once each year. There are no department stores downtown anymore, and Walmart is the easiest place for me to get to. (I used to go to Zellers until it was bought out and turned to crap.)

I went today with a list of 9 items I need. The store has changed so much. It used to be that you could step inside the door and see signs for every department. If you knew what you wanted, you could see where it was.

Not anymore. They now have little aisle signs pointing you in the general direction, but it's up to you to follow the arrow and find what you want. (Good luck trying to find an employee to ask.)

My list had 9 items. I found 3. I'm not sure where I'm going to go now. I hear Target is just as crappy as Walmart.

Is Sears any good?

^ I don't rely on aisle signs and arrows. I hunt down a staff member or go to the front entrance and jot down the directions I need on a piece of paper.

I take a shopping list when I go shopping. And I take a shopping bag.

Zeller's closed where I live and is becoming Target in December

Ours has already switched, but, a recent poll found that Target is the worst department store for customer satisfaction. It's not a good place to shop.

I shop at Target regularly. Place is always clean and employees are way more helpful than Walmart. I don't have to wait forever to check out like at Walmart. I go to Walmart maybe once a year, if I really have to. Target is definitely better than Walmart,

I never go to WalMart because it's tacky as fuck; Target is easier on my eyes. But I live in a metropolitan area, I can shop anywhere.

However, there are a lot of things I buy regularly that I've started getting online: for example, there's this one 'feminine hygiene product' that my grandmother uses, which I can never find in the stores nearest to home, so instead of schlepping my ass to every drugstore in town to find it in stock, I started ordering it off Amazon. And Tylenol, for some reason most of the stores in my area stopped carrying Tylenol...I can get acetaminophen and generic lookalikes, but not name-brand Tylenol, the only kind Grandmother will use; so I get that online, as well.

Target is new to Canada, so maybe they're still trying to find their wings. Maybe I'll take a bus ride down there next week and see what it's about. Surely they'll have more stock than Walmart. They built a new store a few years ago and moved out of a mall so they'd have more room, and now the shelves are half empty. The only place I saw anyone stocking anything was in the produce department.

Sears? I wouldn't if I were you.. Tar-ghetto is what we call Target around here. I would stick with Wally World, its the cheapest usually.

I walk through sears all the time downtown.

It used to be Eatons but now it's a Sears. How sad, but it's still called The Eaton Centre. but Timothy is gone so I can't rub his toe anymore.

The grand opening of the Target down the street from me brought the Americans down. I think they call it the flagship store but it smelled creepy when I when in the day after opening.

Wal-Mart has changed a lot in the past number of years. They're trying to be more upscale now, and they've jacked up their prices. They also have a crappy selection... that's because they sell everything from tires to chicken wings... when you try to jam pack that many things under one roof, you lose a lot of selection. Sorta like the phrase "Jack of all trades, master of nothing".

Zellers was a much better store to shop at, but now, Target has taken over. They have a damn grocery store too... fuck, if I wanted to go grocery shopping, I'd go to fuckin Sobey's or Extra Foods.

Okay, I won't rub it in too much...
I still have a ...Kmart!
Oh sure I live closer to Wally World, and Target is now in Wegmans Plaza, across the street from Kmart, but I stubbornly still shop at the same Kmart store that has been there since the early 1970s. In fact, I remember being there on its opening day with my Mom, way too many years ago. Kmart is what still it always was, but since buying Sears here in the US, they have added lots of Craftsmen and Kenmore brand items. They also are the only place that now carries Thom McAn shoes (another childhood mall icon). And yes, they do have Martha Stewart, for those of you who care about her. Kmart isn't always the cheapest, but it is close by, never terribly crowded, well organized, and usually has what I am looking for (although I have to admit, I do miss the "blue light" specials):D

So do I.

Agreed.

I try to limit my visits to Walmart once a decade, if that. Target's fine. :D

No big box stores around here except a Fred Myer so that will have to do...what a stupid name for a store but I guess Myer's or Fred's was already taken. They have most everything but not as cheap as Wal*Mart though better quality. Target is revolting and always smells funny like popcorn and melted plastic combined. People who work there are scary too...well, that's retail.

Is Sears still in Toronto?

I have to go to the main land for big box stores. (like that's gonna happen) Tried Walmart once around DC-Never again!

K-Mart hasn't been in Canada for many years. We used to have department stores all over the place, but they're all gone now since Walmart set up house. I can think of only 3 department stores in Peterborough now: Walmart, Sears, and Target. There are more hardware stores in town than department stores.
