Sorry to break it to you guys but the "video" does not exist, it never did. The Gawker website was chosen by the Toronto Star to make their "reports" instead of a Canadian one because libel laws are stricter in Canada.

Mayor Rob Ford could get police protection at public events, his brother said Monday.

“The chief has said very clearly, from the day I got down here, that there’s a whole department that takes care of dignitaries that come into our city, be it the premier, the prime minister or the mayor,” Councillor Doug Ford told reporters.

Rob Ford himself was noncommittal. Two days after he allegedly had a drink thrown at him and one day after he said “it’s time” to accept security, he offered only a joke to a CBC reporter who asked him about his plans.

Ford dodges another bullet:

No, you may not re-try Toronto Mayor Rob Ford in relation to a conflict of interest case that nearly saw him thrown from office last year.

The Supreme Court of Canada stated it would not hear an appeal in the case. It made the decision in a Thursday announcement that, as is custom, did not include a reason for the decision.

The decision puts to bed a 15-month saga that that saw Ford found guilty of a conflict charge stemming from the questionable collection of donations to a private charity, ordered out of office and later vindicated on appeal.

"I'm so happy this is finally over," Ford said after the ruling. "I'm vindicated and we can move on."

Ford went on to say the court case was an attack by those who couldn’t beat him at the ballot box and reminded the public is all came back to him trying to raise money for a charity.

^well the charity was his own football team of which he has been fired as coach and one of the players ended up dead.

The media is fighting back. They want sealed files which should be available to the public to be unsealed:

A group of Canadian news organizations is asking a judge to unseal police search warrants that they believe could shed light on whether Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has a connection to alleged members of a criminal organization.

Police in Toronto and Windsor arrested 43 people in mid-June in what investigators dubbed "Project Traveller." They allege the suspects were part of the "Dixon City Bloods" gang, which police claim was trafficking in cocaine, crystal meth and illegal guns smuggled into Canada from the U.S.

The raids came weeks after reports emerged that Ford had been allegedly caught on video smoking a crack pipe. The mayor has denied the allegations and said the video does not exist.

An online fundraising campaign by the U.S. gossip website Gawker raised $200,000, but failed in a bid to buy the alleged video. It’s never been made public and CBC News has not seen it and cannot verify whether it even exists.

"First of all we have an absolute right to this material, subject to the Crown raising good reasons why not," said Peter Jacobsen, a lawyer hired by CBC News, the Globe and Mail, Sun Media and a number of other news outlets.

"But more importantly this is all connected with the Ford video — or the alleged Ford video — and it also relates directly to the kind of governance we are getting in the city."

I heard about this the judge says the information can be unsealed but in late August I think around August 27th. But it doesn't make sense, why can't the info be released to the media now? It seems like Rob Ford is invincible in a way he does so many horrible things yet always gets away with it.I just wish Ford could be caught and booted out of office.
 
^ Well at least it is better than having to wait for the 6 months. I suspect that the issue is actually that they didn't want the potential Jury pool contaminated by having this information as people are brought up on charges.
 
So while Toronto floods, 300,000 have no power people are stranded in their cars and transit our fucking Mayor sat in his SUV in his driveway with the AC on because he had no power in his house. Even his brother was out there directing traffic because the street lights were down.

Great leadership and this one will not be forgiven.

our mayor has waited until 11am to emerge from his SUV for his news update and he's only 44.

I'll be quite happy when his name is lost somewhere in the history books.

Good Lord. The man is so fat he'd probably explode if they didn't keep him at low temps.

Pretty amazing though that as mayor, he wouldn't have made a beeline for the City Hall to be at the helm as the City was scrambling to deal with the storm.
