Mayor Rob Ford urged to take leave after Taste of the Danforth incident

Councillor Jaye Robinson is renewing her call for Mayor Rob Ford to temporarily step down and “get help” after a a slurring Ford wandered Taste of the Danforth Friday night.

“If he wants to be the mayor of this great city, I think he needs to take a leave of absence and get help. It’s in the best interests for the mayor and it’s in the best interests for Toronto,” Robinson (Ward 25, Don Valley West) told CBC Radio’s Metro Morning.

“The pattern continues,” Robinson said. “I think a lot of us were hoping he had resolved his issues but it’s just a recurring theme.”

Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong, public works chair and a Ford ally, said “a mayor needs to act like a mayor,” and all council members need to be careful about alcohol consumption.

I loved this take on the visit:

What was the purpose of Ford’s late-night sojourn to a Toronto jail? We may never know. (Although the timing, just weeks before the crack video allegations were first made, is notable.) Ford refused to answer questions about it, and then accused the Globe reporter of harassment.

Once upon a time, it was only Toronto Star reporters accused of harassing Ford. But after this Globe report, and this from the Toronto Sun, the accusation will have to do triple duty.

Deny, deny, deny. And when you can’t deny any further, you accuse someone of harassment and shuffle the cards again. It’s the way things work in Ford’s city hall.

Nothing about the visit to the Toronto West Detention Centre was above board. It was a dubious and questionable appearance for a mayor, for a friend of an inmate, for a member of the general public.

Not that it matters to Ford. Few rules or regulations exist that can’t be bent with the right sort of response. Deny, deny, change the story. Shuffle the cards.

How is he still in office? I'm surprised his staff (or their staffs) haven't dropped some kind of bomb by now. His support seems to be eroding.

And to think, just yesterday, I was reading an article about Ford being excited and prepared to do battle in next year's election.

What a difference a day makes.
 
How on earth did Ford ever think he was going to bullshit his way out of this mess.....

And it isn't even about him hanging out with thugs and breaking the law using drugs...I couldn't care less that he is a crack whore.

But he's a coward and a liar and a bully who has been throwing his heft around to intimidate anyone connected with the story.

Which, in itself, could raze half of Mississauga. Ford and Duffy could do some serious damage if they put their minds to it.
 
When you have lost the support of the only newspaper for people who move their lips while they read...you really have hit 'rock' bottom.
 
No but maybe he should. McGinn is an idiot and oddly enough huge number of people right around here support him. But area wide he will lose to Murray - almost 100% chance.

Canada's answer to the New York Post...it is an extreme right-wing newspaper. What little I've seen of their cable TV station [Sun TV] even makes Faux News look liberal.
