I got scolded by my mom for making fun of Sarah Palin ,for living in Wassilla. My Mom said, "Ethan, I don't think you should make fun of someone for living in Wassilla AL when you grew up in Lahaina, HI." She is a very reserved Japanese lady who never swears. I asked, "You like Sarah Palin?" She said, " Oh, no; I think she is a fucking idiot." Then, I got her to realize that even though we are smaller than Wasilla we have much more cultural and ethnic diversity and many visitors from all over the world.:badgrin:
 
There's more than enough other shit to pick on Palin about besides where she chooses to live.
 
Actually the joke was about eating moose and my mom reminded me that the pork we had at dinner was a boor that I shot, while hunting, she said people in Alaska would think that makes me a redneck (I don't think you can be a gay redneck. I will have to ask Jeff Foxworthy.) However, the issue remains that Mrs. Palin is from a very insular place which can lead to narrow values. Yes, I know insular comes from "island" and I live on a real one...lol

MY mom is a dyed in the wool Republican, and I've been giving her all sorts of shit about voting for the McCain/Palin ticket.

She says she just may vote for Obama, but I don't believe her.

Redneck is a bigoted term???????? That is a little too PC for me. In my dictionary, a redneck is usually a bigot Being from a small town does not necessarily make you one. There was a big anti-Sarah rally in Wasslla from people who wanted it known that they do not share her values.

You're mom's right, it's not nice to make fun of people from Alabama (AL). Of course I thought Palin was from Alaska (AK) and that would be a different story.

Not that I support picking on Sarah Palin because of where she lives (like I said before there are plenty of other things that actually matter), but where you live is one of the easiest things to change. It's not like race, gender, disability, sexual orientation. Like religious beliefs, where you live is almost always a choice. If wing nuts are going to judge me for my choice of sexuality (not that I agree it's a choice but that's their claim), then it's certainly fair game to judge others for their place of residence and religion.
