Hi, my name is Tim.

I'm just old enough to have seen the original trilogy in a theater for it's first run—back when we didn't know we were watching the fourth act. My childhood was marked with Star Wars action figures, the Muppets, Smurfs, oh and my favorite Wonder Woman doll.

I say this not only to set my age, but also to show I knew who I was when I was very young, even if I didn't quite understand it... A movie picture book from Star Wars was my favorite reading material back then. Inside was a full profile photo of Luke standing on the sands of Tattoine staring off at the setting binary suns. I could stare at that picture for hours, and probably did. Looking at him was powerful to me, it was complex, it was beautiful, but it was also very innocent.

Of course, as you might expect, I eventually figured from the world around me that I probably should not be doing that and so began a years-long struggle most of you could probably relate to. *I never went through school as the 'gay kid,' though, as I gave myself other dysfunctions that overshadowed that part of who I was.

But that's all the past now and life is much better, not perfect, just better. *I am who I am and would never want to be anything else. *I'm a tolerant person, but not of the nurture argument.

Who I am today... *I'm an artist, of the commercial nature. *I'm a news junkie, I can't not know what's happening in the world. I'm an Apple-centric dating back to the Plus and currently coming to you from a black iPad 2. *My last book was Guy Kawasaki's, "Enchantment." *(Do yourself a favor, read it.) I am also a TWiT lover.

Dan Brown is one of my favorite authors as I enjoy historical fiction, but I generally disliked the movies.

"Is It Just Me?" has recently become one of my favorite gay flicks, followed closely by "The Curiosity of Chance." *I think every gay teen should see "Camp" to prepare them for meeting a straight guy like that—a guy that's not necessarily bad but can really mess you up for years.

I'm tempted to be a snob and say I hate TV, but that's not the truth. *I watch too much. *NCIS, *Stargate of any variety (Scott and Jackson, oh my), Castle, Brothers & Sisters, The Apprentice, White Collar, Merlin, Torchwood, America's Test Kitchen, and so on... *I miss Battlestar Galactica.

Musically, I love almost anything, but not so much rap, or hip hop as I believe they call it these days. *I would probably cry if I ever met Meat Loaf.*

I don't consider myself effeminate, with the possible exception that things tend to move me and a sad scene in a show can cause me to tear up... but I try to hide it. *I have nothing against those guys who are feminine, but it's a little harder for me to relate. *

Well, if you've made it this far, that's truly awesome, I like you already! *I figure you're not just looking for a pic of a body part to share. *(I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing between consenting adults, but it's not why I'm here.)

If you feel any sort of kinship to a guy of my type, I'd love to talk.

Hello!
Since you enjoy historical fiction, have you read anything by Ken Follett?

What a great introduction, Tim :).

I loved the romanticism of Is It Just Me?. It didn't seem so far from reality though, so that could be another reason why I enjoyed it.

The Curiosity of Chance was great, too, but I haven't seen it in a while. I'll have to give it another go :).

Welcome to JUB! I hope that you enjoy your time here...

Hi reone!

I almost hate to admit it but I rewatch the last scene of Curiosity every once in awhile. I just love the expression on Brett's face as he walks down the steps.

I'm always looking for good movies, many of them are really badly done. If you have any recommendations, I'm open…

Hi Tim...welcome to JuB.

I remember the Star Wars movies back then too...I'm a big fan and collector of Star Wars stuff

johaninsc,

I don't have very much any more, a few action figures and every once in awhile I'll see something that I just got to have, but my collection could probably fit on a shelf with room to spare at this point.

I did get to the Star Wars concert with Anthony Daniels a year to two ago. It was really great! I was fortunate enough to be bumped up to near the front and was probably just 20 feet away from him. I don't know if it's still running, but if it is and you haven't seen it, it's worth going. (I did break down and buy the little lightsaber they sell at the concert.)

blahblah,

I know the name very well, but I'm not familiar with what he writes. I didn't realize that was his genre. Are you a fan of his? If I were to start reading him, which book would you recommend I begin with?

Thanks!!
Tim

Well I did read one of his books called Pillars of the Earth, and I have to read the follow-up! The UK did a mini-series which I thought was well done for an adaptation.

Thanks! I'll be needing a new book soon, so you just made my decision much easier.

Glad I could help! It's pretty thick, but let me know what you think of it :)

Reone, thanks! I just put most of those in my queue, a few I haven't been able to find yet, but will be on the lookout.

Thanks for the warning about Bobby, if you shed a tear that means I'm going to need a whole box of kleenex. I'm terrible that way.
