In Italy to be exact.

The robbers work in term, inside a bus. Sister and her husband was distracted by a few old men. Those old men pretend to be very helpful and chatty to them, suddenly the next stop, she noticed the money ($1000 Australia dollars) and credit cards were gone and her hand bag was unzipped.

So some parts of Europe is no good !!!

that' why it's important to pay attention to what is going on around you. It's easy to get distracted, especially when meeting "friendly" people while traveling. I hope they don't let it ruin their vacation...

They went to the police station, before they opened their mouths,
the police already knew what happened to them.

Italy has a bad name now about pick pockets.

Carrying $1,000 in cash wasn't a good idea. One should always keep one's valuables close to one's person.

Those thieving Italians and their thievery. This would never happen in every other country in the world....

A. You never carry $1000.00 in cash.

B. You never carry a purse that has a zipper.

C. You never carry your credit cards and your cash in the same wallet.

D. Don't allow yourself to be distracted.

I have a hard time with D.

Always keep your valuables in your underpants.

Same thing happened to us in Florence on a bus. Not much money, just a wallet and credit cards. American Express cancelled them for us immediately, so no harm done--just the nuisance of having to have cards reissued. And yes, Italy is notorious for pickpockets.

Italy is notorious for pick pockets. did they not read into travelling there at all?.. when I went I kept my money in one of those safe wallets that go around your neck under your shirt..... but our group had multiple attempts on us from pick pocketting..

Lol. What did you think before? That Europe was a haven of no crime and we all floated on clouds not doing anything wrong? Every country has bad people. It's a fact of the world.

Telstra really sorry for your sister's loss. Other countries can in fact be beautuful - but their chief drawback is that the locals are their allready. Never take that much cash anwhere, certainly never expose it.

(Only truly honest country I found was Japan - but others I'm sure have found differently.)

Yeah, when my friend and my dad and I were in Rome, my friend had this lady walk up to him with a baby in her arms and she virtually pushed the poor thing into his chest, so as to distract him while her other hand was reaching for his pocket. Crafty.

And then later on in the subway my dad had another woman try and pilfer cash from his jacket pocket. The rest of the Italians on the train gave her some very dirty looks.

As for myself, I escaped getting thieved on by women, and the only little trick played on me was from this good-looking hot dude who started making me a wristband on my arm. I didn't object. When he was finished and it was tied tight so I couldn't remove it, he asked for some money. I gave him some. #-o

I'm a sucker for a nice guy. :o

I thought everyone are friendly and hot with big cocks in Italy :D

Wow. I didn't catch that, Tombastep. I'd always known Telstra was an Asian, but for some reason I didn't see him as an Australian…

is this a joke or irony or sarcasm? I realise it's difficult to recognise people behind their avatars but

Even on the train in Boston, when I used to ride it daily, I guarded my wallet with my life as I have had a few friends lose theirs when you're crammed like a sardine. Some of my friends still carry their SS and debit cards in their wallet which are the two stupidest things to have in there at all times

All I can say is that I hope she is more responsible with her belongings going forward and chalks this up as a lesson learned in life.
