My SKylix is gone

Well, the puppy I found that I wanted got adopted before I finished the application process, so I'm back to square one. I guess I don't have to debate if it would be worth theeffort to drive to Arizona, now.

Then it wasn't meant to be. When the right dog comes along, you'll find each other.

There must be plenty of dogs in need of a good home. I'm sure you'll find the right one soon.

The problem is that not many breeds are suitable for someone with bipolar I, PTSD, and anxiety disorder. A mastiff-mix is excellent because they are almost unnaturally calm plus supportive, but it has to be the right mix -- no pit bull, rotweiler, husky, bulldog, or a lot of others. Skylix was almost a miracle mix with 1/4 mastiff plus 1/4 boxer (loyal and playful) with 1/4 golden lab (loyal and affectionate) -- the 1/4 Maremma shepherd was the only "flaw" because it led him to try to herd people.

Meanwhile, I just came across this fellow:

2

and sent an inquiry. He's half-mastiff, half-german-shepherd (highly recommended for PTSD and anxiety). He's also eighteen hours closer than the last hopeful.

I'm also more ready: the yard is now puppy-proofed with pet-friendly 2" plastic-covered wire mesh suitable for keeping small creatures inside the boundaries.

^he is adorable! Hoping you get him!

Well, Chancey-- the brother -- got adopted several days after I applied. His brother Harley is back on the list but is getting an adoption interview today.

It seems to me they're moving locals into line ahead of me. :(

Become a regular visitor to your local rescue centre. Rescued animals will never forget what you did for them.

I'll have to check to see if they have a new director. I reported the one like ten years ago who was letting volunteers walk the dogs through the local dump where there was sharp metal and broken glass. She was pissed enough she banned me.

Back to square one -- Harley and Chancey both got adopted by someone else.

I just did a Petfinder search and found only one possible in all the lower 48 states.
Oh man, I'm just hugging you with my love right now. And, yes, if you cry, it's okay. I'm two thousand miles from you, but that's what I'm feeling right now, and I know that it's not helping you find the companion that you so need, but I hope it assuages some of this at least a little to know that you have people who care about you.

That almost (ALMOST? No, more literally than that) seems like she was sanctioning cruelty. For the sake of all animals in that shelter, I do hope they have a new director who actually cares about the animals' welfare and happiness.

In my view she was sanctioning stupidity and negligence. I told her so to her face.

Fortunately the shelter moved and is about three miles from the dump now.
