So, did what's left of the booklet give any indication what might have caused the smoke?
 
All kidding aside, you could always sue the company for not putting a warning label on the oven telling you to remove the manual inside.

For a product that is considered good quality (my goodness, it's a Kitchen Aid), I am surprised...

Of course, most of those counter top appliances are not made in the US or Canada anymore. There are a handful of manufacturers that produce most of the different brands. No offense intended to foreign made products, but some countries (especially those in the Third World) do not have the same quality standards.

Those warning labels crack me up. Once, someone gave me one of those cardboard shields for putting in your windshield to keep the sun out. The warning label included: "Do not drive while this is in your windshield".
 
I've heard of burning books but wow..that takes the cake.
