According to the Saturday morning edition of the Sydney Morning Herald,1/8/09, Myanmar(Burma) could be in possession of an atomic bomb within 5years. Myanmar is being secretly assisted in developing a device with aid from North Korea and at the same time developing nuclear power at another site for the benefit of the country assisted by the Russians.
Considering how the Military Dictators of that country have treated not only it's own people and any representations from the U.N. and the rest of the world,it is a worrying thought that a rouge nation such as this should have possession of such a device.

I'd sure hate to live in Australia in five years. So, are you guys gonna DO SOMETHING or wait for the US to solve the problem? :sex:

Contrary to your remarks the U.S. is not the be all and end all for problem solving. In this case,Myanmar, should be the concern of A.S.E.A.N. and as the U.S. and it's allies, which is most of South east Asia, are already concerned about North Korea this problem should be addressed by a united front and not left to individual nations to solve.

You mean because the US doesn't allow their allies to murder people right?

*cough* Pakistan. *cough*

Guess which US ally has a nuke that has a military junta? *cough* Pakistan *cough*

I'm sorry, I was choking on a pretzel, what were you saying again?
I got some cough drops for you if you need some.

‘‘If it was just the Russian reactor, under full International Atomic Energy Agency supervision, which the Russians keep insisting is their policy and the Burmese may have agreed to with that reactor, then the likelihood of them being able to do something with it in terms of producing fissionable fuel and designing a bomb would be zero.

‘‘I’d be more worried about a meltdown like Chernobyl … It’s the North Korean element which adds the danger to it.’’

That last sentence has me more worried as well.

Would the world be safer if the military regime of Myanmar does not obtain nuclear weapons capability? Certainly. Would they deploy a nuclear weapon in an offensive action? Almost certainly not. As with North Korea, a nuclear weapons capability is intended as a deterrent.

Their detailed testimony brings into sharp focus the hints emerging recently from other defector accounts and sightings of North Korean delegations that the Burmese junta, under growing pressure to democratise, is seeking a deterrent to any foreign ‘‘regime change’’.
