Myers–Briggs Type Indicator

The Meyers-Briggs test, invented in the 1940s, is widely discredited as just a pop psychology parlor game with no science to back it up. HR departments still love it but psychologists just laugh at it as entertainment.

@ entertainment

Fortunately, that is all this website, JUB, is about- Casual entertainment.

Of course, there are a few people, here, who would do themselves a kindness remembering that.:)

I had the same.

I liked the description of having a 'turbulent' personality. This was also a change since I took the test 5 years ago and is a perfect reflection of my younger Extrovert wrestling with my older Introvert.

I am an INFJ.

INFJ-T

Advocate.

It is interesting that my profile has changed over the years.

Nothing like experience and age.

I had the same.
Interesting seeing all these INFJ's...because I tested out as that, too, about four years ago. We all share having the RAREST of the sixteen personality types!

I see some suffixes, such as rareboy's -T and somebody else had an -A

I don't remember seeing any suffixes when I did it; perhaps that applies only to some people. rareboy's interesting comment that T = turbulent (newer extrovert wrestling with older introvert)...yeah, very interesting, I have THAT going on, too.

This may be mostly used for entertainment value; I may say that the MBTI and astrology may be similar in that way. Neither are true science (because MBTI sometimes has alternatives that I'm midway between and I had to choose which), but I think that both have some cred to them.

Mine has always been consistently INFJ whenever I’ve taken one.

I am an INFJ.

1% of the population is INFJ. Another 1% is INFP. Both types are of the Romeo/Juliet "All-For-Love" types (minus the suicides!). There is an interesting book called "Please Understand Me," which I found useful in letting clients read it. It also tells you what type of partner you attract, and which ones NOT to - despite your attraction - pursue!

The actual Meyers-Briggs test is quite long: several hundred questions. Many people take the online versions, which pop up all over the place, and are not as accurate, since the idea is to get you to subscribe in order to get your actual results. Don't fall for it.

On top of that, a person's MBTI can change over the course of many years, although introverts (I) rarely become extroverts (E) and "S" types (practical: "If I can see if, touch it, it's real. If not, I don't believe in it") types rarely become "N" (intuitive/spiritual) types.

A fascinating study of the 16 personality types, I've found it useful in compatibility studies in finding a suitable partner.

I'm afraid that that is an inaccurate statement about the test in general. The test is consistent in its conclusions. It was rejected because it ws introduced by two women who were not, themselves, practicing therapists. (Of course, this was when sexism was rampant.) Are you psychologically trained to make such a statement about the "psychologists"?

EMDR was similarly scoffed at when it appeared in the early 1990s; by men, of course. Today, it is considered a valid tool. (Also introduced by a woman, although this one was a Ph.D.)

I checked the first answers that came to mind, without much thought. Not sure that was the right way to do it. Was it?

Adventurer.

Didn't have the patience to do more than skim the interpretation presented for the type. I had the impression it told me how wonderful I was. Thought the assertion that April Lavigne and Kevin Costner and some other people whose names I've already forgotten or never knew were also Adventurers was a ridiculous thing to do and did not inspire confidence.

I'll take McBrion's word for it that more complex versions are useful, but I didn't get any more out of it than when I read analyses of my astrological sign Scorpio.

(While I know Lavigne is a singer, I doubt I've ever heard her sing. Could never get beyond Costner's surfer-sounding voice.)

Don't just read your Sun sign. That's 1/10 of you. The Sun = the Soul/Ego. The Moon = instinctive emotional responses. (It tells what your emotional nature is like). Mercury is your way of conscious thinking.

If your sun and moon are in signs unfavorable to each other in the natal chart, i.e., Scorpio Sun, Aquarius Moon, mom and dad were not happy at the time you were conceived. Also the Energy of Scorpio is not in harmonious balance with Aquarius. In psychology terms: split temperaments.

Here's a cool site for getting your whole chart free (do a screen shot to save it or download it if you can).

https://astro.com

then click on this and enter the information (time of birth is VERY important) https://www.astro.com/cgi/ade.cgi

You would - if you had both psychology and astrological training - be shocked at how closely the MBTI resembles your astrological traits, which is to say the summation of who you are in this world

I certainly KNOW that the MBTI version I took, did NOT have "several hundred" questions on it, which made me feel less than 100% confident that I had the real deal. I'm thinking I took a version between 70 and 90 questions.

I'd actually LIKE to take the real thing - maybe even to the degree that I'd like to do it in a professional setting, here in Chicago.

MOST CERTAINLY my results now, and my results half a century ago when I was 24, would be **WORLDS APART**. I would guess in 1971 I was something other than INFJ. OK, the introvert part, YES FOR SURE, but not sure of the rest.

I also understand that the "real" test gives you gradients between, say, the "J"/"P" part, like if you're a "J" but still maybe 35% P. I didn't see any of that in the version I took, either.

Meyer Briggs is fun and quite good with 16 types.

But always remember. One answer of one single question can decide if you are extrovert or introvert,
those categories are absolute...

I'll check it out. From the little I've read or heard I would seem to be a stereotypical Scorpio when it comes to sex, don't know enough about other characteristics to judge. Thank you.
