Myth (?)

Alright,

It's bs.

For these three reasons:

Number One: It ignores the history that comes after the Depression. After all, the structrual adjustment programes of the 80's and 90's were based on free market capitlism and they resulted in massize economic depressions and debilaited forgien economies around the world. So free market capilism has a bad rep, regadless of the depression

Number Two: It forgets to mention that the programs result in an increasing gap between the rich and poor, which in turn breeds expolitation

Number Three: it also forgets to talk about the reality that free market economies are unstustianble and in the long term, damage and limit the economies ablity to grow

Also, I'd like to add that the depression hurt so many people because it targeted those who were already vulerable, something caused by free market capitlism.

So the arugements are completly false.

Ignore it.

Hey, I'm in university, alright?

I should know something after all these damn International Development Studies lectures and exams.....

As for the spelling, get over it.

And what do mean, "others"?

I mean you gave articles of faith, like a less coated version of the "myth" paper, more than developed arguments.

The article basically outlines the events as I understood them. The government was the catalyst for the great depression and for the extraordinary length. I do think that the article is wrong in laying all the blame on the Presidents and their administrations. First, Congress had to approve of most of the actions. Second, the courts were not active enough in stopping illegal actions by FDR. Third, the press obviously did a poor job of reporting the events. Fourth, people were stupid enough to keep voting for FDR. The 1930's was the greatest challenge to the existence of our democracy. Luckily what doesn't destroy us often makes us stronger. We have far more checks and balances now. I have always held that FDR was by far the worst President that this country has ever had. If nothing else, he was a great con man.
