  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

NaNoWriMo - any other participants?

I'm approaching 2000 words so far, so that's something. I've got a bit of free time tomorrow, too, maybe I can get the first victim out of the way.

I decided to use a plot I've had going in my head for a little while, by the way. It's a bit dark and violent, but with some lovely black humour popping in for a cup of tea and flirting with the mildly supernatural.

Incidentally, Vermilion, it's opening day, so the site will be running rather slowly at the moment. There are, after all, thousands of people on it at the same time.

It's like when a combination of Google and WWE wrestling managed to wipe out JUB for a little while. Too many people at the same time = server destruction.

how on earth do you enter that into your profile on that NoMazWe website (or whatever it's called) ?

Homepage > Edit Profile > Author Info > enter under Word Count :)

Yeah, the site was ridiculously slow yesterday, but I saw that coming. Still managed to enter my word count (2,169). Took me over ten minutes though...
Expect more slowness the coming days.

I'm currently at 2215, but I haven't written today's pages yet. I'm gonna crack on in a minute.

How're our other budding authors doing?

Incidentally, I'm Jeimuzu on NaNoWriMo. Add me as a writing buddy! There's a little excerpt there.

I'm chugging along nicely... at 4,013 words right now. I like to have a bit of buffer, 'cause there will be days when I simply can't write. They're called Tuesdays.

I'm at 2592 at the moment.

And no way will I ever publish (or let anyone réad!) thís piece of crap, but it's a good exercise to explore story-lines, and see how they work on paper.

It's a good stepping-stone towards writing a more "levelled" story.

Which I wíll do!

One day!

Soon!

*edit: and the funny thing is that I'm writing in English! For some reason I find it easier to write in English than in Dutch. In Dutch it all sounds so harsh, in English I feel you can sort of play with words.

The last time I wrote a short story in Dutch, it was for the school paper... since then it's been English all the way. My four NaNovels have all been in English. Like you say: you can play with English. Dutch is a very clumsy language in my opinion.

Whew, about time. I finally got some done today, and now I'm waaaaay ahead of schedule, on 4648 words. At this rate, I'll be done with 8 days to spare! :)

I signed up last year, and failed

but I want to start this weekend..

The week was a bit busy, but I just want to write more this year than last year...

Kind of like training for a marathon!

One of my close friends decided not to start this year - she's too busy for any kind of writing. The other person on my list with a wordcount of 0... I don't know why he didn't start writing. I'll shoot him a message and find out.

Hell yes. *does a happy dance*

7,050.

It appears, however, that NaNoWriMo has its own Piggy - someone has managed 70000 already, according to rumour.

It's the 24th... you should reach 40,000 words today.
How are we all doing?

My current word count is 40,035. I'm on track for the first time in at least a week! ..|

I've failed. I got stuck at around 12k and gave up.

I've never been happy with forcing words out. It was frustrating me, so I figured I was better off without.

Ugh, how about thát for a peptalk?
Didn't realise I had to hit 40K today... eeeeekkkkk
Word-count as of now (22.11 CET) is 37.6 K . Getting there, getting there.

It's gonna be a long night...... :D

That's not bad at all! Remember that as soon as you hit 40k, you'll fly. It's true - once you need only nine thousand more words, you're going to make it, bar some terrible illness.

Seriously, 2,400 words behind is not a lot. Just get to 40k and you're practically home-free. :D

Actually, that ís true! I'm at 44.150 now, only 5.850 words to go (and 4 days -evenings rather- to do it in, as I'm fully booked on Fridaynight)

Thought I could beat the system by becoming an honorary Hawaiian for a day, thereby adding 11 hours to the month, but apparently it doesn't work that way. Oh humbug!

And are we the only three on JUB that participate? Come on, surely there are more JUB-writers out there?!

There ya go... you're 2k ahead of me now. :D

I don't know if there are any others who are still writing. Let's just hope they chime in and let us know how they're doing.

I'm not doing it this year (nor have I ever) but I'm terribly impressed with all of you who are. I actually can't wait until I am able to attempt this.

Good writing (you don't seem to need luck) to you all!
